Rebekka Bakken Is That You?

From the cover, I thought it was a review of Darius. It's not my kind of thing, but the review, as always, was enjoyable. Legendary Fosca!

You always make me discover incredible things: films that flew under the radar... damn, when it came out in theaters, there wasn't a person in Milan who didn't talk about it! But what are these data you’re retrieving (and I trust them blindly, let’s be clear) influenced by? The idiocy of the average American viewer? That would explain quite a few obscenities of contemporary Hollywood. I really can’t say anything about the film; between Dude and Homer Simpson, I don’t know which model I tried to imitate the most over the last decade. Now I’ve completely failed: "condolences, the misfits have lost." t four and not five for the review because it tells a bit too much, which is fine since we practically know it by heart, but still, it’s a review, not an exam.

Reading your comments made me want to point out that this is not self-promotion, that practically none of you have read anything by the writer in question, and that even though she writes rather poorly on her blog, this page was becoming a bit too mean. Then I opened Flo's link and read up to this sentence: "Ask the baker who stays awake at night to knead the croissants you, who preach against the mafia, eat at ten in the morning after a night of rest if he is happy with the image you present to the whole world of Calabria." Then I decided to ask you to continue, with as much malice as possible. It's fine to publish books without knowing how to write (I repeat: lucky her) but uncontrolled idiocy irritates me. [pause for reading]... Well, I was right not to send the message immediately. I read this as well: "Ask the kids who go to school and who, once they reach some university in Northern Italy, come to a university in the North have you ever been there? What the hell are you talking about then??? By now there’s more mafia here than there, and we all know it... and again... "you preach against the mafia and you are the first to raise your voice against others." I don't know how Flo finds it funny... To the stake, burn the witch!

Yesterday someone described this lady on the site, and out of curiosity, I went to look her up online and ended up on her website. On the homepage (I believe, or at least on the only page I had the chance to visit), there's a sort of "self-portrait" in prose. Terrifying. I swear to God that more than half of the users on this site write much better than she does: this very review beats the content of the page I read. The fact remains that she has the good taste to repeat at least twice, in the little I read, "I don’t consider myself a writer." I have serious difficulties digesting the fact that someone who writes in such an elementary and mostly weak manner is able to publish books. Lucky her.

Every time I hear this stuff, I think of Joy Division, and I immediately move on to Curtis... The only ones that have survived on my hard drive are Iceage from their first album. Moreover, everyone, including Iceage, has a stage presence (or attitude, or way of approaching things, or well, you get what I mean) that would be flattering to define as "Annoying in 2013." Great review, though.

One who counts among his less talked-about films: Salvador, Talk Radio, Any Given Sunday... Find me another like Stone if you can... They've been trying to get me to watch this movie for a month; as soon as they succeed, I'll come to read and comment on the review.

David Cronenberg Videodrome
Voto:
not bad, you say you don’t want to linger too much on the plot and you practically talk about it only... Cronenberg is a bit like Lynch, one of those names you drop to look like someone who knows cinema. Then you meet someone who really understands cinema and you just end up making colossal fools of yourself (saying that eXistenZ is from 2002 isn’t that serious, but it is serious to say it and accuse others of not knowing cinema, extremely serious; besides, it's a film of disarming uselessness, eXistenZ, but never mind, that’s another story). Then when you come out with "MUST-SEE FILM" referring to Videodrome... it’s a bit like saying "OH, I recommend a film, Gone with the Wind: epoch-making!!!" Damn, bro, good thing you came to teach us about cinema...

I like it. Disco and rece. The cover is shit. My mom always told me that you don’t say “a me mi”, that Italian is a serious language and that how you speak is who you are. Then when I grew up, I told her to fuck off and that I wanted to rape Italian for a living. Now dad enjoys, mom enjoys, I enjoy, and Italian suffers. The average Italian, on the other hand, continues to smile while getting pounded in the ass from behind without even the courtesy of lubing up the hole with Vaseline. But the average Italian has little in common with Italian. As a language, we deserve Esperanto or some other nonsense like that of Berlusconi, head of the constituent... and if he doesn’t become it, who cares, it’s a blasphemy even to have thought it... get ready and show your best smile: now they will make you have fun. Bella brother! Bella Salmo! Bella to everyone! Bella uncle!

"a fierce attitude of rejection towards the 'bourgeois bastards who do nothing all day' 'yes, in short, people who spend their time faking and polluting websites... this phrase here 'raw music like a hammer and sharp like a scythe' is embarrassing. You're not capable, take up horse racing, or '10 hours of work, unpaid overtime.'"
