Just regarding Rigoni Stern and Marco Paolini, I found this: "Let me say nothing about the Sergeant, the snow, the war in Russia.
Let me not speak, not write of his death, because you don’t need added words, notes, images.
Leave his grave in peace without bringing flowers.
Let the newspapers do their rightful and not easy job of witnessing the loss.
Read not today but in a month, in a year and every now and then again what you may have already read of his precious books.
Read aloud “Arboreto salvatico” to children, a few lines at a time.
Travel once in your life through the peasant and Slavic Russia that so resembles how we were before.
Walk in silence in the war cemeteries between the mountains from Karst to Pasubio to Adamello.
Remember that behind every great writer there is not always a man who measures up. Rigoni is an exception and this comforts us, in him it was impossible to separate one from the other.
