One of my great-aunts was dangerously close to 100 years old (she didn't make it by a handful of months), and when I asked her, "How does it feel?" she would reply, "l'è staa 'ma dervì e serà ona finestra" (it was like opening and closing a window). A bit like these twelve years of Mason Jr.'s life, with Olivia's disarming conclusions, Samantha's constant lightness, and Mason Sr.'s awareness of not knowing. The film captures them, and so does the review. Well done to both.

"At the circus they were waiting for a splendid slot machine, which could turn wine into water and reality into a dream." That single line would have been enough for me to buy the entire album (and if you add the music too)... Perhaps "Carnival in Babylon" and "Wolf City" are more controlled and structured than Yeti and Phallus Dei; they certainly represent a group that had turned the page more towards prog, but what great prog, in the literal sense of the word: to move forward, to change, to dare.

Really a beautiful album. The title track reaches a certain point (from the middle to the end) that always moves me to the core. "Gutes Land" is also very beautiful: I recommend listening to its version in the documentary "La grande estasi dell'intagliatore Steiner" by Werner Herzog, where it accompanies some emotional slow-motion scenes of ski jumping (for example at minute 33:33).
Gabriele Salvatores Il ragazzo invisibile

The film is not bad at all, and neither is the story, which has its own reasons and narrative coherence (simpler and more linear than certain American nonsense that even Sentieri...). The problem lies in the direction of the actors and this obsession of Italian cinema to have film actors perform as if they were on a theater stage: lines that feel a bit fake, zero naturalness. The middle school that looks like a university, too... they could have chosen a real one.
Rush Exit... Stage Left

You know what I’ve never liked about this live? The audio track that cuts off after each song. I’ve never understood the reason behind this choice. Sure, the performances are beautiful, and what a repertoire! I have a lot of affection for this album, which is the first one I saw from Rush (it was lent to my sister, who didn’t like it. I didn’t even listen to it—I was in elementary school—but I was struck by the cover and the photo of Geddy Lee inside, with the double-neck Rickenbacker guitar/bass).
Noel Gallagher Esibizione e Intervista a "Che Tempo che fa" del 15-03-2015, Rai 3

I watched the interview, and Gallagher didn't seem that irritated to me. Playback, after all, is widespread all over the globe; we didn't invent it in Italy. Sure, maybe on David Letterman, bands perform live, but it's known that in that talk show, the guests are there just to showcase how intelligent and witty the host/comedian is, who is the only real star of the show. And at this point, maybe it's better to have someone like Fazio, where a substantial personality can actually come across as such (that said, I will never know what to think of Gallagher).

So far, I've only listened to the singles, and especially "Orphan" reminds me of Rush from the second half of the '80s.

I always find it really difficult to give a rating to live performances (and I'm not doing it again this time). Nice review, knowledgeable and also amusing! As for the discussion about Anderson’s voice, I like it, but not just for the tone. You can clearly feel that, while singing, Jon enters a "shamanic" dimension, deeply evocative, capable of taking the band to fascinating territories (and if you listen to his "Olias...", this becomes even more evident). That's why I tolerate Yes with other singers very little: they lack his spirit, more than his voice.

I also prefer them in the Californian/Teutonic era, but this record is stunning. Please: don't define "Deutsch Nepal" for me as a minor episode.
