Honestly, it tired me out quickly, and the others never excited me either, but he definitely has a lot of talent; however, he often disperses it in search of virtuosities that aren’t always "functional" to his music. Great review nonetheless.

I don't understand if the posts from dear Pixelid and Happypippo are in response to mine, however I'll specify:
When I evaluate a singer-songwriter, I consider them in their entirety (lyrics, music, human depth) and of course according to strictly personal parameters (my emotions, my experiences, etc., etc.). My "education," both musical and personal, leads me to appreciate De Gregori more, even in terms of the themes he tackles, and especially for his highly cultivated ability to pair moments of true and moving lyricism with always enjoyable melodies. In Gaetano, I feel these characteristics less, which makes me appreciate him less, but that doesn't mean I don't like him; on the contrary, for the reasons you mentioned (for example, his way of wielding the sharp weapon of irony), I find him great, but just below other names, at least four in the Italian landscape: De Gregori, De André, Fossati, and Battiato, which is of course a personal opinion. ;-)

I'm curious about the reference to Tori Amos, I'll listen.

In my opinion, De Gregori is the greatest Italian singer-songwriter of all time, and Rino Gaetano was, in his own way, a colossal talent. It’s not true that he only received posthumous recognition because he already had both critical (especially) and a bit of public feedback while he was alive. I can't say that I miss him because he passed away when I was still quite small, but he would definitely be a valuable presence in the current Italian scene...

But the De-cano is Poletti? Let me know if you know, because I can't sleep at night...
