AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE, the masterpiece of R.E.M.

A timeless album, a benchmark of rock music!!!

It is 1992 and R.E.M. after Out Of Time manage to release a sumptuous album, beyond the ordinary; confining it to the realm of "pop" music seems almost criminal! The theme of the album is death, but never before has this topic been seen in such a sweet and sublime way.

Stipe is incredibly inspired, endowed with a sublime voice that one only hears in dreams!!!Fantastic and chilling!!! Around him, Buck, Mills, and Berry manage to stir the most emotional part in each of us!!!

The album opens with "Drive", which in contrast to the theme of the album is a political anthem, mainly against George Bush, yet features a beautiful guitar riff. "Try Not To Breathe" describes the theme of death from the perspective of an elderly person. "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" is a cheerful song with a unique chorus. "Everybody Hurts" expresses the human desire to break free from pain, beautiful and sublime. "Sweetness Follows" describes the situation of a family where relationships are strained: the atmosphere is highlighted by the musical base, a sweet acoustic guitar contrasted in the background by a haunting cello. "Monty Got A Raw Deal" is the first of two songs dedicated to a lost figure, Montgomery Clift, an American actor who died in the fifties. "Ignoreland" is the most openly political song on the album, truly stunning!! "Star Me Kitten" talks about the impossibility of maintaining a stable relationship, see the final verse of the song. "Man On The Moon" in my opinion the best track on the album, describes the story of Andy Kaufman, of whom a movie was also made. "Nightswimming" talks about swimming at night, in secret, truly sweet. "Find The River" the final song, tells the story of a character grappling with himself, with his own life.

Each track on this album is a pearl, each leaving an indelible mark on the heart of the listener. R.E.M. will never again be able to reach this peak in their career which continues to this day!!! A must-listen and re-listen, absolutely to have in the collection of a listener who loves music that conveys strong emotions!!! The most intense moment? Stipe having to leave in Find The River to find his way!!! Read: here lies R.E.M.!!!
