Pavement Crooked Rain Crooked Rain

LOR15, Spiral Stairs (born Scott Kannberg), after the Pavement disbanded, made an album with his project Preston School Of Industry, titled All This Sounds Gas. I didn't buy the album because I hadn't heard good things about it, and because after purchasing Stephen Malkmus's solo debut (who, with all due respect for Spiral's talent and inspiration, was the true genius of the band), I thought to myself, "if he failed...". In fact, the chemistry of Pavement isn’t something I believe can be replicated; they were too well-mixed as a band (what to say about that slacker Bob Nastanovich... even if just for the screams, he was still indispensable!). Regards.

Sorry for the belated review, but damn it was intolerable that the Pavement weren't here, on this site.

Beautiful Hal. From TW I only have Mule Variations; if I were to buy another one, what would you recommend? Rain Dogs? or maybe Swordfishtrombones? or the same Blood Money? or what else? thanks, bye

dEUS Worst Case Scenario

Ok... apart from what was ironically anticipated by the anonymous person above (anyway, I confirm my opinion)... the comment is positive. I really like the 'emotional' description of the individual tracks. I’m a bit less keen on the reduction to Zappa and VU... the style of dEUS is uniquely dEUS. The influences, which are naturally there (...the Beatles were influenced too...), are many and varied. Besides those mentioned, I would say Captain Beefheart, Pixies, Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth, Tom Waits, Dinosaur Jr, in no particular order. ...Oh, I almost forgot R.E.M. ;-) Well done marcmat.

Cleo, as for Sonic Youth, there are many records to recommend, too many. In my opinion, there is an "inaccessible" masterpiece, which is Daydream Nation (1989), and an "accessible" masterpiece, which is Dirty (1992). Honestly, it’s very difficult for me to choose between the two. Maybe Dirty.
