Sorry, but in 1991 My Bloody Valentine released Loveless, I know, I know it's not as good as this one by Buco but it's a nice little record, I just wanted to say that. Bye.

Beautiful record, yes, you said it right. Moreover, it's a very insidious record. It might seem cheerful and carefree, yes, Mr. E tries to turn the page, to smile and say "goddamn right, it's a beautiful day," but he doesn't quite succeed. Melancholy is always lurking, sometimes ironically ("It's a motherfucker being here without you"), sometimes in a more fatalistic way ("don't take any wooden nickels when you sell yr soul / the devil of the time awaits you / when the party's over you're on your own"). Even when musically the atmosphere is very smiley, the lyrics serve as a counterpoint, see Tiger In My Tank (a very cheerful melody to say "the tiger in my tank is going to go extinct / and i'm not feeling so good myself / i think i'm on the brink of destruction")... On the other hand, it hasn't been long since many loved ones have passed away, and it still shows very clearly. Sadly, perhaps, but this is the sweetest ingredient of his poetry.

Hal, you’ll like it, it’s definitely quite a tough album, but knowing you, I don’t think that will discourage you, quite the opposite; I don’t know how much the voice matters to you, but Stef is worlds apart from – let’s say – Nick Cave or Mark Lanegan. Vana, I don’t know your tastes well enough to say, but judging by the CD shelves in your house, I’d say yes at 66% (do the samples inspire you?)
