I am about to review the third masterpiece by Dark Funeral, released in 1998, one of the most accomplished albums of the Swedish band.
We find Typhos and Lord Ahriman on guitars, Allzazmon on drums, and Emperor Magus Caligula on bass/vocals.
Dark Funeral is one of the most explicitly satanic bands in existence, as can be deduced from their lyrics, which are real prayers addressed to Satan; it can be said that this group represents a true extremization of black metal. It is certainly a musically very valid band, superior in some ways to groups like Emperor, Darkthrone, and others.
The 8 tracks of this CD are characterized by extraordinarily fast, dark, and very heavy riffs, all accompanied by the angry screaming of Emperor Magus Caligula (author of all the lyrics, along with Lord Ahriman). What strikes the most is that all the tracks, with the exception of the last one which features a brief intro with the drums, immediately unleash all their power on the listener.
Among the most successful tracks, not to detract from the others, Vobiscum Satanas (which gives the CD its title), where Typhos and Lord Ahriman (along with Emperor M.C.) give their best, and Ravenna Strigoi Mortii.
An album to absolutely try, made by a band that is a true pillar of black metal.
