Fabrizio De André Volume 1
Voto:
That De André is not second to anyone nor comparable to anyone else is not an incontrovertible principle of faith; it’s a simple observation of reality. A passionate review, one that I would have liked to write myself, but it would have been the seventh on De André, and that seemed too much. This is a perfect album, even though it wasn't conceived as an LP but as a collection. I completely agree on "Preghiera in Gennaio": it alone justifies the purchase, even though it's not the only masterpiece. What can I say? These are albums that are ageless, and if humanity doesn’t completely regress into barbarism, they are destined to become the classical music of the future.
Fabrizio De André Non al denaro non all'amore nè al cielo
Voto:
Just like Silvio does when he exits Montecitorio, I won’t rate the review because I am in clear conflict of interest (I wrote one myself about the same album). But I reiterate, if it were necessary, that this is a pure masterpiece.
Miles Davis 'Round About Midnight
Voto:
I'm late, but I'm here... Nothing more to say now. Let's let the grades do the talking.
Nina Simone The Ultimate Nina Simone
Voto:
Dear rocky Pietro M.D., I was referring to the greats of the past... as you know from my perspective as an antiquarian, Houston belongs to the present, indeed I find it an absolute novelty. As for Gaynor, also quite recent for me, I consider her great (not grandest) only for the voice, which unfortunately has been employed in a rather mundane type of music. But in a way this also happened to the divine Aretha in the '80s. The market is the King of the world.
McCoy Tyner Nights Of Ballads & Blues
Voto:
Here’s another (after Nina Simone) whose absence from debaser cried out for vengeance. That alone would warrant a solid 5 without question, which is further confirmed after reading the review. I’ve always heard him accompany others (especially John Coltrane), so unfortunately, I’m not familiar with the album in question. Filling this gap will be a great pleasure.
Nina Simone The Ultimate Nina Simone
Voto:
Great, after Billie Holiday, Nina Simone... I've thought of Aretha Franklin myself, Ella Fitzgerald is there, albeit with a special album, all Brazilian (but excellent). It seems to me that among the greats, only Sarah Vaughan is missing from Debaser.
Keith Jarrett Paris Concert
Voto:
The "mythical" Grasshopper (so to speak) has the terrible habit of being absent from debaser during the weekends (a somewhat forced choice, given that he can only use the Internet at work). It's a pity because then he gets to read reviews like this one late, which touch him deeply. For me, we’re here beyond jazz and even the contamination of it with classical music: this is pure art of improvisation, at a level that only a complete and cultured musician like Keith Jarrett can achieve. In particular, here he is more than ever in a state of grace, even though saying that Cologne "miserably" disappears seems a bit excessive to me. When it comes to the Mullah, there's a risk of being repetitive: my conversion to Islam is imminent.
Jovanotti L'albero
Voto:
I join giov: I already find it a great test of skill to manage to write a review page on Jovanotti, that is to say, on nothing... To speak extensively and eloquently about nothing is far from being a fool’s task, and requires at least a good dose of imagination.
The Police Outlandos d'amour
Voto:
As above. Police still needs to be "refined," but already has some good numbers.
Kate Bush The Kick Inside
Voto:
Overflowing, baroque (in a good sense, meaning "extremely rich")... These are the first adjectives that come to mind for this "review," but it would be better to say for this declaration of love for Kate Bush, a love shared by me.
