Culmine by Mango is one of the most beautiful Italian albums of all time. Pleasant, soothing, charming just the right amount, it skillfully blends local pop with Mediterranean sounds closer to Greece: "Nella mia città" and "Tu... sì" are two Perugina kisses that hit the mark, but the title track and the big single "Come Monna Lisa" are gems above the average of Italian music of that era. Gran Mogol wrote the lyrics. Grecia:

The last burst of flight (pardon) in Mango's career is the smash-hit "La rondine" (his later works would soon fade into anonymity). The album seems at times inspired (the cover of "Michelle"), at others terribly monotonous. But it sells, and sells well.

One of the most beautiful and important films of the 1940s and of cinema as a whole, a work that was discussed many years ago by Umberto Eco, who described its plot as something that transcended the idea of film itself and became legend. Strangely, no one has reviewed it on Debaser yet, so I'll take care of that.
  • Precisely because it is such an important film, about which much has been written, it is difficult to review... even though I have watched it many times.
