Gianna Nannini: Profumo
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Swept up by a success that was perhaps unexpected, the collaboration with Conny Plank continues. The album goes into heavy radio rotation: "Profumo"; "Avventuriera" and "Bello e impossibile" are the passport to a triumph that is at times inexplicable. radiofonica:

Gianna Nannini: Io e te
CD Audio I have it ★★★
She poses on the cover with her baby bump and, undeterred, continues to blend (a lot of) pop and (a little) rock, just as she has accustomed her audience to for years now. The strings in "Ti voglio bene" are the sign of an artist who is always too similar to herself but (and this must be acknowledged) tremendously consistent. As usual, her faithful Isabella Santacroce collaborates. "Ogni tanto" is even co-written by Pacifico: what a fine crowd.
Gianna Nannini: Puzzle
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Surprisingly, her watered-down rock crosses Italian borders. In Germany, she becomes a major diva and takes half of Europe by storm with "Fotoromanza" (followed by a video directed by Michelangelo Antonioni). Italian melody and European electronics blend into a strange hybrid that, incredibly, works perfectly.

Actually, she had already become famous in Germany with the release of "Latin lover" two years earlier. I prefer the aforementioned "Latin lover" to this one, which, however, isn't bad overall.
Giorgio Gaber: Io non mi sento italiano
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Released posthumously, Gaber's last work (a hoarse, aged, suffering voice) seems like an artistic and spiritual legacy, almost a testament. The closing track "Se ci fosse un uomo" is the final possible hope: a new civilization that replaces our inevitably sick world. The hope, however, is also found in "Non insegnate ai bambini," plus some past songs reinterpreted in a modern key. Irony is guaranteed ("Il corrotto"), but the tone is, ça va sans dire, funereal. possibile:

Harry Styles: Harry's House
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The surprising third album from the former One Direction member skillfully blends modern pop sounds with those from distant eras (the ‘70s): “Late night talking” and “As it was” are convincing, but some acoustic ballads (“Matilda”; “Boyfriends”) are truly breathtaking.
Hiroshi Teshigahara: Pitfall

Irene Grandi: Hits
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A rather substantial Greatest Hits (2 CDs) plus the hugely successful new track "Bruci la città" (with a reference to the Smiths).
James Blunt: Back To Bedlam
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The debut of Her Majesty's army officer James Blunt is a mix of pop and folk that stands somewhere between Coldplay and Cat Stevens. Nothing new on the Western Front, but everything is very elegant and professional ("You're Beautiful"; "Goodbye My Lover"; "High").
Jovanotti: Buon Sangue
CD Audio I have it ★★★
It is the album of rebirth after five years of complete irrelevance. In a little more than an hour, it brings new rhythms, and new words, to its musical world. It often goes over the top, but about a dozen tracks are among his best ever (too bad about what came after).
Lacuna Coil: Karmacode
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
I love rock, but metal, well... That said, Lacuna Coil are hard rock, not metal (as some jokers dared to call them, no). This, and the previous "Comalies" (which opened the doors to American success for them, a feat achieved in Italy only by them, PFM, and Maneskin) are two solid albums. "Karmacode" is powerful and well played, with the downside that after a while all the songs start to sound the same (but tracks like "What I see", "Closer" or the big single "Our truth" are, I'd say, essential) with the final gem "Enjoy the silence," a cover that leaves a mark. But, it's better that they sing in English, the only Italian track, "Without fear," is a bit weak. A work designed for the American market, and it sold like crazy. To the detriment of those who wish them harm (and there are many, unfortunately).
Surprisingly, he changes style and sound: the Springsteen-like rock of his beginnings gives way to a more syncopated hard rock, but one that is much less effective and convincing. Only "Ho messo via" goes down in history—a languid and (all too) crowd-pleasing ballad. The rest is negligible.

I disagree, I consider it one of his absolute best. Its "gloominess" makes it fascinating to me. I find wonderful (besides "Ho messo via") I duri hanno due cuori, Piccola città eterna, La ballerina del carillon, Walter il mago and Quando tocca a te. Maybe he took a bit of a musical risk with the two almost metal tracks "Dove fermano i treni" and "Pane al pane", but in the end I don't mind those either.
Ligabue: Nome E Cognome
CD Audio I have it ★★★
After three years of hibernation, Ligabue is back in the game, and he does so with an album featuring a less fluid sound (produced by Corrado Rustici), followed by the legendary first crowd bath at CampoVolo. However, he doesn’t seem all that eager to keep making music, but he sells in droves.
Ligabue: Ligabue
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
As a debut, nothing to object to; if only he had always continued like this. In an Italian musical landscape that at the end of the '80s seemed to have little to say, Ligabue burst in with his guitars, his riffs, and a healthy desire for rock that blends the Springsteen-like world of the great American prairies with the moody and foggy atmosphere of the Bassa Padana. "Angelo della nebbia"; "Balliamo sul mondo"; "Bar Mario"; "Piccola stella senza cielo" are the calling cards that captivate millions of young Italian rockers. It will prove to be a flash in the pan, a pity.

I don’t dislike the next two at all, quite the opposite. And I wouldn’t throw “Happy Birthday Elvis” overboard either. Then yes, having reached (great) success, he started to live off his past achievements like many others, although he did produce some good work afterwards as well.
Ligabue: Buon Compleanno Elvis
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The period of uncertainty is over: abundant doses of rock and truly believable ballads ("Certe notti"; "Non dovete badare al cantante"; "Leggero") bring him back to the top of the charts. However, the era of the Banda, replacing the ClanDestino, has something déjà vu about it. superato:

It's true, I also definitely prefer the ClanDestino, but in this album everything works perfectly...
Litfiba: 17 Re
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The masterpiece of Litfiba? Maybe. Certainly one of the most beautiful, before the very pop and less rock turn post-1993. A lot of great stuff ("Re del silenzio"; "Pierrot e la luna"), some things leave you speechless ("Apapaia"; "Gira nel mio cerchio"), but it’s a bit too long and a couple of tracks seem too minor compared to the rest ("Come un Dio"; "Ballata"). It’s worth a lot, maybe not a great deal.
Litfiba: Terremoto
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Having shed their skin as a hard and pure emerging rock band, Litfiba transform (to the great dismay of their early fans) into a top-chart group champions of a rock closer to pop. Scandal: come on, it’s just the natural evolution of a band that understood that the ’90s can no longer be musically treated like the ’80s. "Firenze sogna"; "Soldi"; "Dimmi il nome"; "Maudit" echo on all the radios. The quality is very high, but the disputes between Renzulli and Pelù become increasingly persistent, and the subsequent works will mark both their friendly and musical end. Scandalo:

Luca Carboni: Carboni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great Italian pop record (he and Raf had plenty of good ideas back then) excellently performed (remarkable drums and bass lines) and with lyrics that are not taken for granted. But it was the last burst of brilliance. After that, the water of mediocrity extinguished it.
Luca Carboni: Luca Carboni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A beautiful album, a product of its time and of a restless generation that Carboni outlined with refinement and good pop taste. Songs like "La voglia di vivere," "Vieni a vivere con me," "Farfallina," and "Silvia lo sai" will go down in history, while tracks that seem weaker at first, like "Lungomare" or "Caro Gesù," are signs of definitive maturation, not only musically.
Luca Carboni: LU*CA
CD Audio I have it ★
Given the sales record (and so he's right), it's a terrible album, disappointing in both content and sound (by now all too worn out). The single is "Mi ami davvero": banalities worthy of a Perugina chocolate and adolescent love swooning unbefitting of an (almost) forty-year-old.

Luciano Ligabue: Mondovisione
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Growing compared to previous works, he almost seems to guess a couple of tracks without even trying: "Siamo chi siamo"; "Per sempre". He has the habit of pontificating ("Il sale della terra") and the love songs ("Tu sei lei") are among the least bland he has ever written. Not bad. volerlo:

Luciano Ligabue: Fuori come va?
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Unexpectedly, after an unforeseen misstep, here he is once again showing off a form that is at times convincing. "Nato per me" is a rock track that leaves its mark, as does "Ti sento," a sentimental ballad. What falters are the singles, hits that are catchy (too catchy) and easy to latch onto.

Much better this one than the current "Miss World 99" actually
It starts to repeat itself. The second album is, no less, a sequel to the debut, a bit less convincing but still very well played, with some spot-on riffs ("Sarà un bel souvenir"; "Urlando contro il cielo"). "Camera con vista sul deserto" leaves you speechless, other things less so.
Lucio Battisti: Emozioni

Another absolute masterpiece, even though it's kind of a collection...

Lucio Battisti: Il Mio Canto Libero
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Increasingly self-confident, he delivers complex and elaborate melodies that are almost unthinkable for any other Italian colleague. Sometimes he goes overboard ("Gente per bene gente per male"), but often he hits the mark ("La luce dell'est"; "Confusione"; the title track). Record sales.

Battisti looks beyond Italian borders and creates an album with a distinctly (and delightfully) “West Coast” sound, perhaps one of his happiest and most fun records, featuring some unexpected touches (the synthesizer in “Soli”).
LUCIO DALLA: canzoni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
He sells, oversells, and becomes a hit with the catchy tune co-written with Samuele Bersani, "Canzone". He seems more in tune with his audience (and not only them) than ever before in his career, but the album is disappointing, and "Ayrton" pales in comparison with "Nuvolari" from twenty years earlier.

Two lengths longer than the previous "Com'è profondo il mare" (weighed down by too many forgettable tracks), this album opens the decade (at least until 1988) that is the most "clean" and prolific of Dalla. No filler songs, just 40-carat gems destined to become part of every Italian's collective memory, open-air poems ("Tango"; "Milano"; "L'anno che verrà"; "Anna e Marco"; "L'ultima luna"). An Italian boyband that nailed 5 smash hits with full marks ("Un giorno migliore"; "Qualcosa di grande"; "50 Special"; "Se ci sarai"; "Vorrei") and an album that, when listened to again today, sounds like a historical relic worthy of the best "Jurassic Park." Lots of memories, those for sure.

Mango: Disincanto
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The last burst of flight (pardon) in Mango's career is the smash-hit "La rondine" (his later works would soon fade into anonymity). The album seems at times inspired (the cover of "Michelle"), at others terribly monotonous. But it sells, and sells well.
Mango: Sirtaki
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Culmine by Mango is one of the most beautiful Italian albums of all time. Pleasant, soothing, charming just the right amount, it skillfully blends local pop with Mediterranean sounds closer to Greece: "Nella mia città" and "Tu... sì" are two Perugina kisses that hit the mark, but the title track and the big single "Come Monna Lisa" are gems above the average of Italian music of that era. Gran Mogol wrote the lyrics. Grecia:
Michael Curtiz: Casablanca
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
One of the most beautiful and important films of the 1940s and of cinema as a whole, a work that was discussed many years ago by Umberto Eco, who described its plot as something that transcended the idea of film itself and became legend. The character Morgan is as debatable as one likes, but the artist Morgan is (or was?) quite the artist: this album proves it, filled with musical moods (from pop to new wave, from singer-songwriter style to psychedelia) and featuring two covers: one by Gaber and one (beautiful) by Pink Floyd. artista: cover:

I had listened to it fleetingly about twenty years ago (and it was already quite old back then). It’s one of the most beautiful things in the world (and also one of the most difficult).
Oasis: Definitely Maybe
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Seven (!) platinum records mark the debut of the most controversial group (loved and hated in equal measure) of '90s Brit-pop. The melodies and moods are typical of the most radio-friendly pop, and that’s a limitation, but the execution is of immense sophistication, which is a merit. Tracks like "Live Forever" and "Cigarettes & Alcohol" hit the mark effortlessly: young people follow them with an enthusiasm (perhaps) worthy of a better cause, but Oasis, at this moment, are in spectacular form, despite the already escalating tensions between the Gallagher brothers, destined to explode in the years to come.
