I respond to both colleagues, with a certain dose of anger. This album, the debut of Carcass, along with the following "Symphonies of Sickness," represents, together with "Scum" by Napalm Death, the beginning, the birth of a new sound in the extreme realm. Grindcore played and produced deliberately poorly, terribly, but that has pointed a way forward for a myriad of bands that have drawn inspiration from these rotten, oppressive sounds with lyrics that are almost beyond comments for their brutality. For me, this is absolutely GREAT MUSIC, a punch in the gut that shakes mind and body...GENITAL GRINDER...Then, as my friend ziltoid says, with "Necroticism..." things change: be it for a production worthy of the name, be it for the arrival of that sacred monster Michael Amott on guitar, be it for the shift towards more distinctly Death Metal sounds, Carcass reaches their undeniable masterpiece. Anyway, the first two albums of the band are, for me, two absolute gems...WOW...

Never have I seen a Chaplin so cynical and socially pessimistic, with a comedic component skillfully woven into a tragic and at times almost dark story. Brilliantly executed, although it remains light years away from the love declarations that served as morals during the silent era.

The most direct of the band. The opener is pure adrenaline, immediately tempered by the dark and rhythmic progression of "Chaos Descends." From there, a series of epic metal transpositions of great class and measured power unfolds. Special mention goes to the title track and "Nadsokor," one of the most captivating and ecstatic anthems to epic metal ever conceived by the human mind.

Great album. They sound like a clearer version of Bathory (the self-titled debut from the Swedes). Plus, it's not the usual "cold" thrash from some more famous bands. There's a soul behind it all. Tetra; but still a soul! The production sacrifices the power unleashed by the instruments, but weaves a dark mood that manages to evoke the darkness in the ears of the listener.

In an era where there is a bittersweet awareness that much of commercial pop should be thrown in the organic waste bin, here’s an excellent example that honors this debated genre. Dark Quarterer: War Tears
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
It partially tones down the epic approach that characterized the early works, although the title track, Lady Scolopendra, and Darkness seek a meeting point with the glorious material released with Fulberto Serena. For the rest, the heavy-prog atmosphere intensifies, outlining a series of impeccable and irresistible songs from an execution-composition standpoint. The hard'n'heavy of Out of Line is excellent, balancing between "Sabbath-Zeppelin" sounds.
David Bowie: Diamond dogs

Great album from Bowie, with an aggressive, "glam" atmosphere, romantic and slightly decadent. The title track and Rebel Rebel are pure adrenaline, and the rock ballad Rock'n'Roll With Me reveals David's love for the Stones. A pleasant, quick, smooth listen for all classic rock lovers.

Davide Van De Sfroos: Brèva e Tivàn

A dazzling pearl of singer-songwriter music, as well as De Sfroos's masterpiece. Among the most successful tracks are "Foemm e prufoemm" and "La balera," where the most festive and popular folk shines, "Ciberfolk" with its reggae verses and a chorus that sounds almost metal. Finally, the superb title track, an acoustic fresco of a tragic excursion on Lake Como. A sound tribute in the Comasco dialect!

A transitional album, but enjoyable. A great excuse to remember one of the most quoted voices in hard rock/heavy metal. The heavy 'n' roll of the opener is stunning, and the Black Sabbathian march of the title track is even more majestic. The rest is nice too, like the thrashy riffs that kick off Shivers and The Eyes. In short, a pleasant thirty minutes in the company of the unforgettable Ronnie...

Tonight I put "Images and Words" back in the stereo due to some unshakeable will up in the sky. I didn't dislike it, on the contrary, it felt like watching a movie. Very smooth and measured pop progressive. The metal has nothing to do with it, the instrumentation is metal, but the sound is neutral and precise, giving a lot of power and dynamics to the contortions of the compositions. The cover has always directed me, the images in my mind flowed, a mix between Metropolis and the Cowboy Bebop movie. Nostalgia.

An embarrassing singer, a bassist who writhes but doesn’t feel overpowered by the worst production in history that only showcased a fluid yet impersonal drum and a guitar that frankly bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.. The only redeemable track on this album seems to be called Six PM. My high school friends were crazy about it. I played Mother's Milk, The Downward Spiral, Dirt, and Nothing's Shocking and told them... to make rock'n'roll, a 7-string guitar and a 1,000,000,000 Watt amplifier aren’t enough... @ Psycopathia: I agree with Zanna. Metropolis part II has a nice concept, and there are some acoustic and piano interludes that are quite good, recurring main themes, etc. Images and World is nice (without overdoing it) in the first part, but then it starts to lose itself in those convoluted horrors based solely on technical execution, lacking any thread of passion: hyper-technicalism for no reason, practically! It's up to you, but I think both albums should be listened to in full at least once in a lifetime, if only to appreciate the technical execution of the various musicians (in fact, that's all that's interesting about them). Freaks aimed at hyper-technical performance who can't infuse any art or feeling into everything they do. As always, De Gustibus...

Eugenio Finardi: Fibrillante
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Another gem of this year. A work that denounces a system that is too liberal, which has done nothing but suppress the lower classes. Listen to it carefully, giving it a romantic judgment rather than a political one: you will surely appreciate it!
Eugenio Finardi: Roccando Rollando
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Born as the logical continuation of Blitz, this record is the second (and last) that marks Eugenio's collaboration with Crisalide. "15 bambini" "Legalizzatela" "Zerbo" continue to significantly reflect the social/political thoughts of the singer-songwriter. Above all stands out "La canzone dell'acqua," a gentle acoustic reflection on the possibility of a personal existential change.
  • Zimmy
    7 dec 15
Despite the title, this seems to me the first work in which Finardi begins to drift away from the rock of his early days; I find it much "smoother" than the previous ones, and also more unsure about the direction to take. This doesn't mean it's not a good album; I find "La canzone dell'acqua" particularly beautiful...
Eugenio Finardi: Dal Blu

From the symphonic "Ottocento" to the ethnic "Monti di Mola," here is the penultimate album of Faber that encapsulates the lyrical and musical concept of the singer-songwriter (up until that 1990), while freeing the listener from the unpleasant sensation of experiencing the "transition album" effect. Among the gems are the ironic "Don Raffae" and the poignant "La domenica delle salme," the piece that most embodies the "De André style" in the tracklist.

Absolutely true. With the difference that for me, De André from 1984-1998 is the best of all time, while for you, it's not. But that's okay. It remains that De André has a plethora of albums deserving a "maximum rating" even from '68 to '75 :D

my taste and/or I say so it's the same thing, idiot. It is like this because it is like this and THAT'S IT. In terms of content, so texts and poetics, it's in the first part that FDA gives everything and says everything! and that’s a fact! and since he himself said that music was for him just a vehicle (a tram) to transport words, it sounds WRONG to say that the best FDA is the "ethnic" one (which wasn’t even HIS project creuza de mà). and you've said it A HUNDRED TIMES that you like ethnic FDA, enough we got it. We all know that you only say it to give yourself some flair!

Everything is very interesting. Look, I honestly understand hj's attachment to Faber's second era; it's undeniable how much more care has been put into the musical aspect from '84 onward (for me, there was already a nice step forward in this sense with Rimini). The discussion of a "transitional album" clearly states that this album exempts the listener from that feeling, but primarily it remains a musical summary of all the good work Faber had done up to that point. There are albums that encapsulate all the previously expressed ingredients in an artist’s discography, and these works are indeed defined as "transitional" precisely because they add nothing to prior works. With "Le nuvole," this does not happen: it manages to be a musical summary of Faber's work while maintaining a fresh "compositional expression." That’s no small feat...
  • RIBALDO
    22 apr 15
But LE NUVOLE is an album as extraordinary as it is underrated, for me it’s far better than CREUZA DE MA'! Of course, what I said was a provocation (to claim that FDA is better when young) because FDA, as the true great artist he was, had the habit of improving over time like fine wine. However, one cannot deny that his peak is in the first 6 albums! And if peak isn’t the right word, I don’t know, it feels right to say that the TRUE FDA is the one from the first 6 albums.

Apice fits perfectly. Consider that for me too, his four best albums all belong to the 70s, namely "Tutti morimmo a stento," "La buona novella," "Non al denaro né all'amore né al cielo," and "Storia di un Impiegato."

    22 apr 15
Despite the indestructible duo Faber/De Gregori, I must say that "Volume VIII" is among the ones I listen to the least. Even the various gems "La cattiva strada," "Giugno73," and "Amico fragile" have always seemed inferior to the "famous" ones from other albums. It’s also disappointing to say so, because these are tracks with excellent lyrics (perhaps among the best ever from the singer-songwriter), but I repeat, they don't excite me as much as other songs from the Genoese storyteller. There is only one exception: "Oceano!" The most beautiful track on the album and one of the ten best pieces by De André, for me. Anyway, you've convinced me to give it another listen, since it’s been a while since I last heard it...

For me, Volume 8 is not among the best, despite containing several beautiful songs. My favorites are the earlier ones... Especially "La buona novella" (for me, his absolute masterpiece) and "Storia di un impiegato," but I also really enjoy the first three, and lately, I've been appreciating "Non all'amore" more and more, which I always preferred less compared to others. Regarding the second part of his career, my two favorites are the last ones: "Le nuvole" and the extraordinary "Anime Salve," which encapsulates and is the testament to his thought, containing Princesa, Disamistade, Dolcenera, and Smisurata preghiera, which are among his absolute best for me.

"Creuza de Ma," for example, would deserve a 5 just for its originality, but personally, I can't go above a 4; the same goes for "Le nuvole" (all albums that I'd still give a 9.5 to, so, as I said, we're very close to absolute perfection).

Macaco, read how De André describes the album and you'll realize that it's not wrong to call it an "eulogy of solitude."
Masterful work. Two minor flaws: the clean/scream vocals are still somewhat inexperienced (it's only the second album), and the linear structures of the tracks reveal at certain points a faint flattening that, however, does not overturn the pleasant fluidity of the music. Excellent the solemn Walhall and the closing instrumental (engaging enough not to suffer from the absence of Vratyas’s vocals).
Between the negative monologue of a frustrated individual and his perverse memories, when one begins to narrate how life has contributed to reducing him to such a state, there lies a Dostoevskij who improvises as a paper psychologist of human mental turmoil. Among the greatest works of fiction that I know.

Indeed, many attribute to him the beginning of the psychological novel in the sense of how the protagonist's flow of thoughts, the struggles with their own conscience, the inner dualism between the conscious and the unconscious... All elements that emerge in Dostoevsky's novels but that will only materialize years later in a revolution of thought (psycho-analytic) with the advent of the new century and fundamental figures such as Freud, the "father" of psychoanalysis, and Italian novelists like Svevo and Pirandello.

Attention, this is not folk metal, but simply ambient folk. It is an alternative experiment by the Finnish band, quite interesting indeed. It tells the tale of a gloomy yet whimsical night in a dark forest in Scandinavian lands. A must-listen for all lovers of folk music.
