But is this Santa Vincenza, who has collaborated with Santo Davide da Byrne of the talking heads, really that good? Because if she is that good, it's time she listens to that record with Mr. Cespuglio from the Ghosts.

I read that Santa Vincenza appears several times on Michele Gira and Cigni's new album! Look, I'll tell you that initially I got to know her through her friendship with The National and Sufjan Stevens (she used to play with him), beautiful voice and all, but then I couldn't quite digest her, it wasn't really my sound. In the end, I too asked myself the same question and got her discography up to this latest self-titled album, and I must say that little by little she won me over. She manages to blend various pop, funky, '70s, synth, etc. vibes with a touch of modernity. You have to recognize that she has her own very personal imprint.

Thank you, I will take it into consideration. Starting from To Be Kind then since there is (great business card) and then going backward. "pop, funky, '70" Because that brings to mind "77" by a certain group? :D

just think that in my little head, I connected Davide to Punk '77 :D

Ahahahahahahhaha no I meant the debut of Davide Testa speaking. Well, the pop and funky words immediately flashed a giant orange 77 for me :)
  • I highly recommend "I Never Learn" by Lykke Li, "Wanderlust" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, "The Take Off and Landing of Everything" by Elbow, and especially "Water Breaks Stone" by Charlotte Martin, one of the most underrated singer-songwriters of the past ten years. Great list anyway, even if it doesn't quite fit my usual tastes ;)

Elbow are usually cool, the previous album "Built a Rocket Boys" I really liked. This new one, however, is incredibly boring...
    • It's definitely a bit heavy, but I really like it quite a lot ;)

I will definitely try, always open to new musical shores ;)
    • Start with "Water Breaks Stone" by Charlotte Martin then, among those I've listed, it's my favorite :)

Eh, if only I found the time to listen to this Loom, that would be great. I had heard the single in advance, like, yeah, they're definitely very Touché Amoré inspired. Topshelf rarely makes a mistake, even though for me they keep having bands that resemble each other a bit too much :D. Also take note of Rescuer, who seem to have shifted from their debut (more melodic HC in the Boston school) to more screamo vibes (they even signed with NoSleep).

So much stuff all the time! Hahaha! Yes, Loom really does a lot of Touché Amoré, but they still have their own personal style, they didn't just copy! :-)

A long and very varied ranking like mine: we think the same way about the Mogwai, La Dispute and A Silver Mt. Zion are too high for me, it takes time to digest the one by Storm{O} but it grows and has a couple of killer tracks, I still need to listen to the More Than Life one better, which seems promising after one and a half listens more than the one by La Dispute! I listened to half of Sun Kil Moon and then got tired of it and never finished, while I don’t think I'm very interested in hearing the Comeback Kid one, for the rest I’m taking some inspiration :D

"I listened to half of Sun Kil Moon and then I got bored and didn't finish it." Bad :) That album captivated me, Kozelek hits me particularly hard.

With this album by Sun Kil Moon, I have a bipolar relationship: sometimes I listen to it and it completely blows my mind, other times it captivates me and I really enjoy it. I don't know, I'm just strange... :P

better for the ears to be torn if not there’s something wrong!
  • Taurus
    3 may 14
but it's not that it was bad...let's say it just went on for a long time, in the moment I turned everything off and then I just didn’t feel like finishing it!

Yeah, it's a bit long. In any case, I'm glad you didn't stop because you were finding it disgusting. I understand it can get a bit tedious over time, yet it mesmerized me. I found the one from Mt. Zion excellent (it's the first one of theirs I've listened to). And well, for the rest, you all speak languages that are alien to me, so I'll keep quiet :D

Here I am strange... my listening habits are sometimes instinctive, like I know the parallel projects but not the main ones: let’s say that the one by A Silver Mt. Zion would have been better if it had been less sung! In other times, an hour of acoustic atmospheres would have discouraged me, but not now even if I didn't feel the need to finish it, and I started listening to other things! Alieni ardcuore?

Yes, hardcore aliens, at least for stuff like Dispute and the others. But even Mogwai, eh, I know them very little. Look, in the Zion album at the beginning all that singing had stunned me too, I wasn't used to it with Godspeed. Then I got used to it and I have to say I even liked it. Well, tastes, of course.

For Mt. Zion, just look at my nickname; I think it explains everything very succinctly. Sun Kil Moon for me, Kozelek came from Among The Leaves, which was a decent effort but a bit below his standards. With Benji, he expressed himself at the highest levels, with impressive speed. More Than Life were a hair away from making me say, "they might as well have stayed in the South West grazing," but then they found something that was done well, although it’s still below their standards. A rather forced album. La Dispute is in a whole other category; they are a prime example of how to evolve their sound. They don’t just throw together random indie stuff to follow the trend of the moment, because after all, that’s what MTL has done.

What's the trend right now? I'm listening to it now and I do like it; I just need to figure out how much (do you remember depista un po').

Look, I’ve noticed the same thing with the new single from Rescuer, for instance, that is, softening the sharp sound towards influences that are more gentle, whether it’s the post-rock world or indie. In short, "smoothing it out" and making everything less direct. To be clear, these are derivative choices; I mean, bands like Funeral Diner were already doing this over 10 years ago, which absolutely doesn’t undermine the quality of the proposal. But seeing a band that has always been dedicated to a certain sound, like MTL, change so fundamentally does make it feel a bit forced. And it makes me wrinkle my nose a little, even though, as I said, there’s something well done in there (the beginning of the album is what makes me lean towards a 7, compared to the second part). These are choices that, while there have always been melodic openings in the band’s DNA, feel like a half-successful evolution or (de)evolution.
    • Taurus
      6 may 14
Yet your talk also includes La Dispute, which is even more melodic than that of MTL, which is basically almost a shouted indie-rock record; perhaps the ways of lightening up are not entirely similar, but that remains!
    • ZeroKanada
      6 may 14
But La Dispute definitely don’t sound like More Than Life at all. They have never played melodic HC, not even in Vancouver, which was the most intense episode. La Dispute is from a different scene, different sounds, a different band, a different musical evolution. In short, you just need to listen to Wildlife and then Rooms of the House to understand the coherent statement they have been pushing forward for quite some time. No last-minute changes out of nowhere like MTL.

Yes, the new album is very post-HC indeed... but since we're on the subject, what do you think of Lantern? If you haven't checked them out yet, I recommend giving Cloud Nothings and their latest album a listen!

Punch for me is a dive into the past, hysterical and pure rage, without compromises. Meanwhile, Empire! Empire! are among the absolute best in the modern emo scene :D

Here, excellent then... I’ll shamelessly copy and listen hehehe. Ah, the new album by This Will Destroy You is beautiful beautiful beautiful :D

Ah, the ranking serves for this too! Punch I wanted to write a couple of lines about (maybe). The same goes for Empire! Empire! who by streamlining their structures and shortening the tracks gained in this album. We'll see. Eh, all this is good! I’m also thinking of going to see TWDY here in Milan.

September 25 in Milan, at Leoncavallo. I might give it a thought. Only 8 euros for the entrance...

I'm super busy in September, I should check with other people what they want to do, but if I were around Dauntaun, I could make it happen. Yes, it’s a "historical" ARCI.. well, I've seen La Quieta, Raein, Sed Non Satiata, and other stuff there, but now they don’t have many events like that anymore. In fact, I was surprised that TWDY are going there.
      *La Quiete.

Well, I have to see if I can make it too, maybe we'll catch up then :D thanks for the tips!
