...not bad...I would also see the small faces, moving sidewalks, the seeds, also the spirit and the 13th floor elevators.

Seeds and 13th Floor Elevators, then I recommend Bo Diddley and the Wailers off the top of my head, the latter being friends of the Sonics, but more pop, and of course, the Who!

I had dismissed the Small Faces some time ago; they didn't really excite me. I actually like the Moving Sidewalks, and I'm not familiar with the others, but I'll make sure to listen to them right away.

I am looking for rock-blues bands similar to the ones already listed, which is why I don't like the Wailers, and while I obviously consider Bo Diddley a great, I don't think he fits in this ranking as I have conceived it.

..try "shake some action" by the Flamin' Groovies and the first album by Steppenwolf

  • chinaski033
    3 feb 12
Well, I love the Steppen, I had forgotten about them. Now I'll try with your other suggestion.

Instead, you j&r if you haven't listened to it, I recommend "Blues Helping" by Love, it was recommended to me by Matteo and I find it fantastic. As a fan of the genre, you should like it.

Okay, I had read the Sonics and I recommended their snack buddies, the Wailers. From the Flaming Groovies, I would also suggest Teenage Head, and I would throw in something by Love, but there we venture into the realm of psychedelia.

    ah and the Electric Prunes!

  • chinaski033
    3 feb 12
If I'm not mistaken, the Electric Prunes are more inclined towards psychedelia than rock blues, right? I'm not very familiar with them, that's why I'm asking...

..if you haven't heard it yet, "no way out" by the chocolate watchband is remarkable.

  • gnagnera

Yes, definitely more psychedelia, but I think you might like them.

  • gnagnera

Great, the Chocolate Watch Band, but they lean more towards psychedelic garage. If I want to stay more on the rock blues side, I would also say Blue Cheer.

  • j&r

    ..definitely blue cheer!

Hi China. Beautiful. Recommendations: "Mothers of Invention," "Jimi Hendrix Experience," and "Who"...

  • Thirdly, the Stones? Well, personally, I would have placed them at the top, but to each their own Olympus :)

Hi there, I really have a dumb head if I forget to include the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" in a 60s rock blues ranking. I put in those I've been listening to lately, and it's possible that I missed other big names. As for the "Mothers of Invention," I’d say no, they’re not for me, and the Who from that period aren’t exactly what I’m looking for in the genre.

Well, I’m surprised that after all this time you still ask me these questions. Clapton's solos are number one for me for life; it's pointless to try to change my mind. :)

J&R I listened to a couple of '60s albums by the Small Faces and I've come to the conclusion that… let’s not kid ourselves, they totally belong in this ranking, completely underrated!

Ten Years After and Procol Harum

    The Who !!!!!!!!!

The Ten Years could work for us, but aside from a fantastic live performance, I’ve always felt that they haven't done much compared to their potential. Their studio work doesn't live up to par, in my opinion.

  • No, in fact, I was saying that everyone has the love they have. I would lick Keith's hands just like you would with Clapton ahahah.

Very interesting, Savoy Brown and Love Sculpture are for connoisseurs!

Maybe it's not exactly your kind of thing, but in my opinion, the Love and of course the Floyd are missing from this list.

  • chinaski033
    4 feb 12
Look babe, I know very little about love, and I’ll delve into it later. I obviously love the Floyd, but I didn’t want to create a ranking of the best band of the 60s in general (and in fact, I got the name of the ranking wrong); I just wanted to list the rock-blues ones that I like. Just to be clear, those that when I play a CD make me want to light up a joint, pour myself a shot of whiskey, put on my sunglasses, and hit the road in the car under 40 degrees :)

Ah ok, then I recommend the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the Jeff Beck Group (I think you just forgot about them).

I clearly forgot Jeff, while I don't know the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, thanks for the suggestion.

Of the PBB, absolutely check out the eponymous one and especially East West.

If instead you’re looking for something less known, there are the Steamhammer. Reflection and mkII are their most successful and bluesy albums.

Can I ask a question from an ignorant standpoint? Is there something very close to the style of the Animals? Rock-blues leaning towards the raw rock 'n' roll of the 60s?

  • fedezan76
    4 feb 12
I don't know, I think you’ve already listed the best ones, maybe The Pretty Things.

Yes, I imagined it... Anyway, next week I’ll dedicate to your suggestions and a few things recommended by gnagne and j&r. I hope to be able to include them in this ranking.

..the monks!!...they're a bit like the sonics but even more abrasive

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the studio works of the Ten, but of course in live performances they give many a run for their money. I have to include John and Jeff. I didn't know the monks and I will evaluate them. For now, I’d say I have a lot of stuff to download and listen to.

Emerson, I really like your advice. I listened to some of their music and they turn out to be a good band, very good!
