American rock band formed in El Cerrito, California. Core members were John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford. Known for a concise roots- and swamp-influenced rock sound and hits such as Proud Mary, Fortunate Son and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.

Led by John Fogerty as primary songwriter, singer and lead guitarist. Tom Fogerty left the band before its final studio album; the group disbanded in 1972. Tom Fogerty died in 1990. Creedence Clearwater Revival were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. John Fogerty continued a solo career after the band's split.

DeBaser reviews consistently praise Creedence Clearwater Revival's concise roots-rock, the bayou/swamp sound and John Fogerty's songwriting and vocals. Key studio albums highlighted include Cosmo's Factory, Bayou Country, Green River and Willy and the Poor Boys. Live releases (The Concert, Live in Europe) are noted, with The Concert singled out as a strong live document. Mardi Gras is widely regarded as the group's weakest studio effort.

A group that is stratospherically essential, demonstrating how, in the era of rampant psychedelia, rock could (and perhaps should have) always been the kind that gets you moving in three to four minutes of song, saying everything that needed to be said in a few well-chosen phrases.
