English rock band formed in Newcastle in the early 1960s, fronted by Eric Burdon. Best known for their 1964 hit "The House of the Rising Sun" and for bringing American blues to a UK pop audience during the British Invasion.

Alan Price played Hammond organ on the band's early recordings. Chas Chandler was the group's bassist and later became manager of Jimi Hendrix. Eric Burdon later performed with the band War after the Animals' initial period.
