Not bad (but Watts and Starr mmm...) good to see Collins in the top 10, but I would also add Brand X alongside Genesis (and given what they’ve shown in the fusion realm, I would also push them up a bit ;) because that’s where he showcased his talent 100%). Good first one. Buying suggestions (you probably still need to add them :): Robert Wyatt, Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham.

I know that Watts and Starr leave you puzzled, but beyond the technical difficulties faced, they are dignified! The shopping list is long, but the top 10 will experience fewer jolts;))

Geo, first of all, congratulations on choosing the first place. So, in the top 5, there absolutely has to be, imho, Mitch Mitchell... you decide whether he should be first, second, third, fourth, or fifth. Then I'd add: Cozy Powell, Roger Taylor, and Lars Ullrich.

Sure, these are your 10 favorite drummers ;) However, I highly recommend listening to "Unortodox Behaviour" and "Moroccan Roll" by Brand X; here Phil (now in his sixties) showcases a skill and virtuosity that he only partially expressed with Genesis (I'm not exaggerating). It's truly monstrous, highly recommended listening. Plus, the ranking already includes such great names as Bonham, Copeland, etc.

And shouldn't we put Guy Evans as Stone? ;)

Stone, have you ever heard of Brand x (I know I'm advertising here)?

no hjhhjij, you advise me to add them to the list, right? ;D

True :D, but in the end they are just 2 albums that are absolutely worth listening to, plus Livestock. Keep an ear out for the two titles mentioned above ;) (what do you know about jazz-rock-fusion?)

Anyway, trust me, the jazz version of Phil Collins is monstrous.

ok, hjhhjij, as soon as the jazz-fusion phase arrives, I will definitely listen to those records and if I enjoy them, you will give me more tips! ;)

live jazz always makes you feel monstrous :)D

Yes, but the great thing is that in the live shows of Brand X, Collins wasn’t on drums (due to his commitments with Genesis, of which he had just become the frontman), the incredible and amazing things he did on those two studio albums are truly monstrous, one of the best ever. Anyway, you should also listen to Bill Bruford, Robert Wyatt, Powell, well there are many :)

hjhjhjhj, if you’re convinced that you are real! ;D The ranking is very nice, and I agree with the first place. I join Billy Cobham's suggestion and add Jon Hiseman, Jim Capaldi, and Jeff Porcaro.

BelliZZima, I would still place Ina Paice among the top 3.
Anyway, I see Ullrich at 20th. You mean the drummer from the early Metallica, right? Because the Ullrich of today can barely hold the sticks.

I would definitely rank Tim Alexander from Primus, he's amazing.

I need to get to work with these Primus: I made quite a fool of myself with Les Claypool.

I don't like Primus as a band, but I recognize that the individual members are worth more on their own than together ;)

Great ranking, Carmine Appice! Do you know Benny Benjamin from the Funk Brothers? I would also add Steve Smith from Journey, Mike Shreive from Santana, Zigaboo Modeliste from The Meters, Ainsley Dunbar from the Jeff Beck Group (but will they be in the database?)

Nice to see the old Neil at the top... I would add Narada Michael Walden (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Barriemore Barlow (Jethro Tull), Giulio Capiozzo (Area), and Chester Thompson (Genesis).

  • Tony Montana

Beautiful, obviously I agree with the immense Neil Peart in first place. However, I'm not very much on board with Lars Ulrich, whom I’ve never liked (but that's a personal opinion), really lacking in technique and inventiveness compared to the LEGENDARY musicians in the 5 immediately following positions :) But the top ten positions are quite shareable!

  • Geo@Geo
    4 apr 11
Dear all, the biggest problem in adding is figuring out the position: I have to think about it! You suggest the same;))

    Mike Portnoy!

I completely agree with the top 4 positions, which with the addition of Mitch Mitchell would make up my hypothetical top 5. Great ranking! :)

I've decided: not having an encyclopedic knowledge, I'll stick to the groups I know, also because I would rank them at random and therefore poorly;) @stone, too bad for the top 5:))
