Assolutamente soggettiva, inoltre i gruppi non sono in ordine. Una schifezza in parole povere. :)

Well, the landscape is so vast that it’s hard to choose. Quite a varied ranking; in my opinion, the Bauhaus wouldn't be out of place.

Thank you Wise for reminding me of them, when you rush it you forget a lot of things. :D

Great ranking. Of course, the 80s are truly endless; CCCP and Litifba are missing. Anyway, good job Alfre :D

I never listened to the CCCP much; they didn't excite me on the first listens, but maybe it's time to give them another listen, who knows, I might have subconsciously changed my mind in the meantime. :)

    The Minutemen break first.

Sonic Youth too low. Great ranking anyway.

    Sorry, I hadn't read above.

Big names, a spot for Joy Division, New Order, and Talking Heads could be found.

I don't like New Order, I would place Talking Heads in the '70s, like Joy Division.

  • Alfredo
    11 nov 10
The fact is that Joy Division made 2 LPs: '79 and '80, where should they be ranked? :D

  • ProgRock
    11 nov 10
I put them in both, it would actually need a ranking reserved for the years '77-'80 :)

Gang of 4 and Pere Ubu, good good, do you know Virgin Prunes and the Pop Group?

Beautiful ranking. Speaking of the Minutemen, besides Double Nickels (which is huge), what else should we listen to?

  • Alfredo
    12 nov 10
Yes Voodoo, I know them and I like them, especially the Pop Group (great comeback!). @monetmarco: EVERYTHING! :D Jokes aside, the discography of the Minutemen is quite "minute" so it's worth listening to a bit of everything, start with The Punch Line the first LP.

I wasn't sure whether to include the Pere Ubu; maybe it’s better to stick with the '70s ranking.

If I may share my thoughts (a perspective that is far from original, of course)....the "80s," musically speaking (and referring to the indie scene, equally obviously) start around '83 with a collapsed new wave (given that the grandes of the period '77-'83 either disbanded or continued making music while somewhat agonizing, with very few exceptions). In any case, you deserve a solemn pull on the earlobes for not having included at least Bad Brains, Thin White Rope, Loop, and Spacemen 3 (and Savage Republic)....a double or maybe even a triple pull for completely overlooking the Australian scene!!!! :-)

  • Alfredo
    12 nov 10
I completely forgot about the Bad Brains. I haven't forgotten the Australian scene at all, look closer!! :D I did forget Died Pretty though!

"Thin White Rope, Loop, and Spacemen 3" -> I still need to listen to these.

Indeed, I now see that you had included the Birthday Party... okay, I'll ease up a bit :-) ... for the rest, let me know (if I may offer a suggestion: "Exploring the Axis" and "Moonhead" for the TWR (there's a serious risk of falling in love with a band like that), "Heaven's End" for the Loop, and "Sound of Confusion" for the Spacemen 3. Anyway, there was plenty in the 80s... also check out, since you like a bit of the "strong stuff," the Bitch Magnet's "Umber"....

I completely forgot about Squirrel Bait and Bitch Magnet! :) What kind of music did Loop play?

Wow, out of the forty-something groups you’ve put together, the ones I like fit on the palm of my hand. Do we happen to have different tastes??? ;D

Yes Fede, I would say we are at opposite ends when it comes to music. Better this way, you know how boring it is with everyone listening to the same stuff? :))

  • ProgRock
    11 dec 10
Let's see if I guess the bands on the palm of the hand that Fede tolerates here: Cure, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, Rem(?), Pixies(?), I'm sure about the first 3 I mentioned :)

  • Alfredo

    The Magnums for sure.

And the Depeche Mode. I put Rem, Japan, Metallica, and the Echo in limbo, instead.

In the ranking of the Nineties, however, there is an increase.

They are not in order. Otherwise, the Pogues I added earlier (may Shane forgive me for the oversight!) would be much higher up.

This is a great and beautiful ranking. Many kids obsessed with the tired hard prog of the seventies should print it out and study it well. Thank you for including me in 35th place. Too kind.

Anyway, the most beautiful album was New Gold Dream by Simple Minds, nothing beats sex in the car!
