Don't mess with my rough edges! XD I really didn't get that about Van Halen on the band, where was I supposed to put them, in the attack or on the bench??? :)

    Great ranking, but missing:
The Uraiaip!! The Aironbatterflai!!! The Nazarett!!! The DSENSESCIONALALECSARVEIBEND!!! The BLUORYSTERKALT!!! THE UFO!!! THE BLUCIR!!! THE BAKMENTARNEROVERDRAIV!!! THE TIREX AND THE STATUSQUO!!!!

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
Some of those mentioned are worth exploring; you did well to point them out to me! ;)
P.S.: T-Rex has nothing to do with hard rock, I don't like Status Quo...

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
No, well, T-Rex depends on the period; I highly recommend the first 4 to listen to (which would be my favorites :P).

Well done for the deaf leopard!

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
Of course, I don't dispute the value of T-Rex; I just find the hard-rock label incorrect for them. They are THE glam. If anything, they could be classified as glam rock or simply rock... Anyway, I'll keep your tip about their albums in mind. ;)

The first 4 like Tyrannosaurus Rex or like T. Rex? I lean towards the latter.

So, those starting from 1970, right fedeZ???

Sorry, I mean the first four groups mentioned xD

@stone: yes! @felo: you cheated us...

I recommend Next and Live in Glasgow 1993 by SAHB; then Razamanaz, Hair of The Dog, and Snaz by Nazareth: people who should be talked about more often.

  • ProgRock
    4 nov 10
I appreciate the top 3 in the ranking, the others don't suit me.

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
If you like complicated things, PornoGraffiti by Extreme isn't bad either. Then if you’re into Southern/Hard rock, Raunch'nRoll Live by Black Oak Arkansas is nice; and if you want something different, I recommend Tommy Bolin (whom Fedezan knows well). Anyway, my favorites by T-Rex are Electric Warrior and The Slider.

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
Instead, I want to recommend a gem that is unfortunately little known: "Ursa Major" by the band of the same name (on guitar Dick Wagner, who would later play for Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, and others). Here’s a link

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
Damn, Nazareth really needs to be explored more, good job Felo! p.s.: I listened to Pornograffiti several years ago and if I remember correctly, it disappointed me quite a bit...

Fedez... great piece! But who are they, I had never heard of them? Do you know what year the song is from??? Which album is it on???

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
Yes, well, virtuosity is annoying to me too; but some people like it. Okay, since you're in the mood for new listens, I don't know if you're familiar with Invasion Of Your Privacy by Ratt; I really liked it. It's impossible not to mention Blue Oyster Cult by the band of the same name. Then I would recommend (if you haven't already listened to it) Electric by The Cult with Billy Duffy. Another Hard Rock album I liked is Live Album by Grand Funk Railroad (Farner is a ridiculed genius), or also We're an American Band.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
Yes, I like Ratt's Invasion Of Your Privacy and Out Of The Cellar, the others need to be reevaluated... ;)

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
I approve, Felo, and I’ll add: Blue Oyster Cult's "Secret Treaties" and "Fire of Unknown Origin" (the best from two different eras); Grand Funk Railroad's "Closer to Home" and "We're an American Band" (again, two different eras).

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
FedeZ, I listened to a couple more songs by Ursa Major, great!!! It's strange that an album like that went unnoticed in '72... but do you know if they made any other albums of a certain level?

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
"Yes, well, virtuosity sucks for me too" >>>>> the only super-virtuoso who doesn’t make me cringe is Eddie Van Halen, especially hate his fucking clones! :)

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
No, it's the only album they've made (sigh), and also my first review on DeBaser... Dick Wagner is well-known and has played on the best albums of Alice Cooper and on "Berlin" and "Rock'n'roll animal" by Lou Reed, as well as on Peter Gabriel's solo debut.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
ah, too bad... anyway I'm listening to it, I like it a lot, I love early '70s hard rock! :)

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
Yes, I remember Berlin, but I delved deeper into Steve Hunter; I only knew Dick Wagner by name. (I knew he collaborated with Mark Farner, and that made me think of Grand Funk Railroad ;))

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
Ah, anyway, I like Van Halen because they don't bore me. Who do you mean by his copy?? People like Dweezil Zappa?

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
@stone: who are you telling... @felo: it's true, he also collaborated with Mark Farner as a solo artist, and even with Aerosmith and Kiss.

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
I love Van Halen as a guitarist, but I like the band without getting too excited (the first one, 1984, and OU812 are my favorites).

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
Another Hard/Glam artist that I really like is Mick Ronson, especially his solo work with Slaughter On Tenth Avenue; or Ronnie Montrose with Montrose; or Todd Rundgren; or John Kay and his Steppenwolf; Foghat (thus Savoy Brown); Mountain; Ten Years After with Alvin Lee; Slade; Mott the Hoople, etc...

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
Here, among the last ones you mentioned, the Mountain are definitely my favorites. "Nantucket Sleighride" and "Climbing!" are stunning albums.

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
A group that must be mentioned ABSOLUTELY: Cheap Trick with Live At Budokan and Lap Of Luxury. The same goes for Night Ranger.

  • Felo
    4 nov 10
    why them?

  • stonecoldcrazy
    4 nov 10
@Fedez I find Van Halen II and Women and Children First truly stunning, definitely superior to 1984... then, with the change of singer, they moved into strictly AOR territory while still maintaining decent levels...
@Felo I meant those guitarists, especially from the Los Angeles and American scene of the '80s, who limited themselves to cloning his style without the slightest bit of originality or creativity, in short, lousy artists who poorly concealed their mediocrity with speed of execution... :D

  • fedezan76
    4 nov 10
@stone: I know those albums, but I don't really like them much. I find 1984 definitely better.

@stone: I like that dedication about Ursa Major, and for this reason, I'm giving you two more suggestions: the homonymous album by Granicus (Zeppelin-like) and if you don't know them, Spooky Two by Spooky Tooth.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    1 dec 10
The dedication was the least I could do! :D Well, I’ll listen to the aforementioned names as soon as possible and let you know! ;)

  • stonecoldcrazy

ahhh, I see that the Granicus also have only one album to their name... :)

  • fedezan76
    1 dec 10
I almost forgot another INDISPENSABLE name: do you know Wishbone Ash? Their "Argus" is for me one of the absolute masterpieces of the 70s. And "There's the Rub" is also very beautiful, thanks mainly to their most beautiful song "Persephone" ( ).

  • stonecoldcrazy
    1 dec 10
Great suggestion fedeZ, they definitely deserve further exploration!

  • white68
    1 dec 10
For the Free, however, I would have put "Fire and Water."

  • fedezan76
    1 dec 10
It's a pleasure, stone, it's not so easy these days to find hard rock enthusiasts. I agree with white68 about the Free.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    1 dec 10
Actually, it was very difficult for me to choose among the first 3 albums by Free, all 3 are beautiful! However, Free seems slightly more mature than the first one, a bit dirtier, more bluesy than the second one...

  • stonecoldcrazy
    1 dec 10
*slightly dirtier, more bluesy than the following "Fire And Waters"...

  • hjhhjij

Already, the ranking is "almost" perfect (I just can't stand Guns and that dogshit, but whatever) The top 6-7 positions are perfect.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    10 dec 10
fedeZ, Wishbone Ash are really badass, now after the beautiful self-titled album, I'm moving on to Argus! ;)

  • fedezan76
    10 dec 10
The first is rougher and wilder. "Argus" is different, more melodic and polished. Not to mention distinctly more inspired.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    14 dec 10
FedeZ, in the end among the 2, There's The Rub won, truly stupendooouuuuah!!! ;)

  • Rock70
    14 dec 10
Alright! In fact: almost perfect! But the Iron Maiden...

  • stonecoldcrazy
    14 dec 10
rock70 read carefully, I'm referring only to the first 2 albums with Paul DiAnno, which I believe are much closer to hard rock than to canonical heavy metal. ;)

  • hjhhjij
    5 mar 11
The early Maiden and Judas fit in perfectly ;) Then great ranking, maybe I would have placed the Rainbow a bit higher (and I would have eliminated the devilish trilogy Aereopipp-allacazzodicane-pistoloni di rose but oh well :)

  • stonecoldcrazy
    5 mar 11
For the Rainbows, I tried but they can't overcome! XD As for the sacred triad dear to you, I'd say you could already be grateful that they are in the backlines... ;)

    5 mar 11
But yes, I'm fine with it :D

try giving a listen to Jericho Jones (later became Jericho) and Winterhawk (the guitarist Jordan Macarus is a monster!) ;-)

  • stonecoldcrazy

Sure, thanks for the heads up, I’ll try to listen to them! ;)

  • Zekkill
    5 mar 11
for me Deep Purple second, Blue Oyster Cult a bit higher. Great are Sir Lord Baltimore! I would also include Captain Beyond...

  • stonecoldcrazy
    5 mar 11
The fact is that the top positions are too hard to establish... -.- I don't know Captain Beyond, is that a big deal? :)

  • hjhhjij
    23 mar 11
    Who are the Blue Cheer?

  • stonecoldcrazy
    23 mar 11
Blue Cheer are simply the very first hard rock band ever (excluding, of course, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Jeff Beck Group, ...) and one of the most influential when it comes to genres like metal and stoner... in short, they played "a kind of acid hard rock laced with blues" (who the hell knows what I just said?!! XD). I recommend you listen to at least the first two: Vincebus Eruptum, Outsideinside, both from '68. ;)

  • hjhhjij
    23 mar 11
Sure, I will listen, thanks for the suggestion. But you should also listen to Sea shanties by High Tide ('69), they're very hard and way ahead of their time (hard-prog acid with a wild violin).

  • stonecoldcrazy
    23 mar 11
Okay, I will listen to it as soon as possible! :)

  • hjhhjij
    23 mar 11
And I noted down the 2 titles mentioned above.

  • Felo
    24 mar 11
I have only listened to the first one. I don't know them well.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    24 mar 11
So Felo, you absolutely have to listen to their second album, which is at least on the same level as the first. The next two albums I listened to weren't bad either, but they definitely lacked the revolutionary fervor of the first two albums, which truly weigh like boulders. I'll give you an incentive to listen to it: their second album has a really nice cover of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Stones! :)

Two questions come to mind. Do you think "Defenders of the Faith" by Judas Priest is a mix of hard rock? Second question: do you prefer "Hysteria" to "High 'n' Dry" by Def Leppard? Strange... Anyway, overall it's a great ranking. Congratulations!

  • stonecoldcrazy
    19 oct 11
No, no, Defenders is heavy metal, but I find that in almost all Judas albums there's a purely hard rock attitude (except for very metal albums like Painkiller, which I actually have a love-hate relationship with), so I included them here too. P.S.: in that heavy metal list, of course, I only included them! :D Ah, regarding Leppard, yes, I prefer Hysteria, which I find more unique compared to High 'n' Dry and Pyromania, for example.
