    @Den Vlaams now it’s fine. ;)

I don't fully agree, but that's fine, after all.

great, even though Dire Straits aren't that bad after all

The Edge?! The electric guitar is not just technique and virtuosity, but above all passion and feeling, which The Edge certainly possesses.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    25 sep 10
But please, the only thing that The Edge doesn't lack is money!!! Worse than him is only Sid Vicious, actually no! :D

I don't agree with Dire Straits or with the Sex Pistols... but I totally agree with Yngwie Malmsteen!

The Dire Straits 15th place? No way! And U2, with all the crap out there, I'd put them quite a bit lower (certainly not in the top 5).

I agree with a lot of things in this ranking, except for 2: Dire Straits (there are much worse bands, see AC/DC and Guns – even though I know you don’t mind them) and maybe the Clash, who don’t drive me crazy either, but to be considered among the worst of all time? I totally agree on U2 and Pistols (add their dear bassist too, the epitome of nothingness ;)

    4 dec 10
ehhhh, actually it should be slightly updated, the thing is that just looking at this ranking gives me a significant sense of anguish! xD For sure Sid should be added, the Clash cannot be touched, it’s already a lot that they’re not in the top 5. As for Dire Straits, even though I find them incredibly overrated, I could actually remove them...

  • hjhhjij
    4 dec 10
Yes, go ahead and remove Mark Knopfler's band, you can keep the Clash (I'm not exactly a fan either) and immediately add the most useless "bassist" in history :)
    Ligabue even appears twice! Wonderful

There would be many more, but it's fine as it is, let's not hurt ourselves any further :)

I agree on everything except for Clash, Ramones, and Kiss... finally someone who hates U2.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
    the U2 are evil. ;)

  • hjhhjij
    7 jan 11
Evil maybe not, but they all fit in this ranking, especially since the last two albums are truly awful (and I held back). Anyway, I reiterate, great ranking.

What a punch to the heart, Stone... When I was thirteen (many years ago, I swear), I was jumping on the living room floor with my brother listening to Alive II by Kiss on our father's stereo, who wanted to call an exorcist! You know how it is, you grow up, but you never forget your first love! And I find them here, among the worst... what have they done to you?!?

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
I'm not particularly fond of Kiss, but saying they're among the worst seems exaggerated.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
I'm sorry, but in my mind, Kiss represents the degradation of music in favor of the most base business; I just can't stand them. ;)

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
I can't disagree with you; after all, Simmons and Stanley's well-known origins leave no doubt about their money-grabbing tendency. However, I assure you that in their very early years, they truly worked hard, and at least until '77 they were still genuine and live performances were a blast. From there on, though, you know how it goes—their pupils were replaced by the dollar sign.

  • hjhhjij
    7 jan 11
True, until '77 they weren't that thirsty for money and commercialism, and they made some good albums, which may not necessarily be masterpieces and might not be to everyone's liking ;). I like Kiss, with their ups and downs, especially up to Destroyer.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
YRO, hjhhjij, fedeZ, I have great respect for your opinion, so... 3 vs 1, damn you’re putting me in a tough spot! -.-'

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
Yes, let’s say that on "Destroyer" (considered by many to be their peak but I prefer "Hotter Than Hell") it’s more about the four of them being taken in hand by that genius of the recording studio, Bob Ezrin, who transformed them into a "noble" band with chrome sounds and super glossy production. But I prefer them rough, without so many embellishments. The solo albums by Stanley and Frehley from ’78 are real masterpieces.

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
Look, Stone, I can't stand them either. I'm on the opposite side; I've always rooted for the Angels... but objectively, they made some great albums, especially in the '70s.

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
Great faith, but seriously, does no one know Angel?!? How old are you guys? Am I the only old-timer in the group? :-(
And it's ironic because Angel was actually launched by Kiss (same record label, after all). Their debut album is simply thrilling, immense, a natural crossroads between Hard and Prog...

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
Well, if the last 2 digits of your nickname refer to your birth year, then we have exactly a 20-year difference! XD P.S.: I don't know the Angel... is that a big deal???

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
yro167, and who do you think was the first to review it in here, the first of the Angels??? ;D

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
However, to be honest, I was still immature and I don't think anyone paid attention to me. :(

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
Yes, 167 refers to January '67. You could almost be my son ;-) not knowing the Angels isn't a big deal, it's criminally prosecutable ;-P Look, use any tricks you want (to those who understand...), but you can't NOT have the first of the Angels. The opening track "The Tower" is epic, an exhilarating crescendo!

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
In short, you weren't a big shot yet! XD

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
I absolutely agree, I would even say the first two!

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
In that case, I have the entire discography ;-)

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
Now I'm in a Van Der Graaf Generator phase... once I'm done with them, I'll move on to the self-titled album by Angel, then! ;)

  • stonecoldcrazy
    7 jan 11
YRO, is there a musical artist whose entire discography you don't own? XD

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
Okay, I absolve you... three Our Fathers and a Hail Mary... uh... Mary...

  • fedezan76
    7 jan 11
I have listened to all their albums, but as far as I'm concerned, only the first two are essential.

  • YRO167
    7 jan 11
So many. I've tried, as much as possible, to take the best from the tip of the iceberg, but I still have many gaps. I'll make up for it in the next forty years ;-P

Aside from the presence of Ramones and Clash and the absence of those fucking rich hippies NOFX (as well as all the black metal), I’d say it’s perfect!

    14 jan 11
Well, yes, NOFX could fit in! ;)

At least those guys were real punk, not like that crap from The Clash. The Sonic Fru-Fru, on the other hand, aren't even worthy of being considered music.

  • hjhhjij
    30 jan 11
Really? Well, I get it, more than music it was noise :D

Yes, like the noises I make on the toilet seat. ;D

  • hjhhjij
    30 jan 11
Could you make us a record, praised by critics as "the pinnacle of noise-intestinal experimentation in the Italian rock scene from '75 to today"? XD.

It seems you don't appreciate the Uddùe, well, then we have something in common, shall we team up? Not bad, but Clash and Sonic Youth are among the greatest bands of all time, they shouldn't be here. Leave punk aside; the Clash were only punk at the beginning, then they made rock'n'roll, a ridiculous punk band, but an unforgettable rock'n'roll band.

  • hjhhjij
    30 jan 11
It depends on personal taste, but for me they're completely forgettable ;) Magnum, I still haven't understood one thing: you like the Led, but do you find them overrated or do you just not like them at all?

  • magnum p.i.
    30 jan 11
I don't like them, but sometimes I do. It depends on the days. Sometimes I find them unbearable, other times I can't find them at all. Anyway, yes, I AM IRONMAN.

  • stonecoldcrazy
    30 jan 11
Yes, magnum, I want to be with you! And know that we have at least one more thing in common: the veneration for Cimmi Endrics! :)

I also hate U2... a lot. I think Clash and Ramones are good bands, definitely not deserving such low positions... I’d say you don’t like punk very much, huh?

  • Karter4
    3 jan 12
I agree on everything except for:
    - Ramones: I don't like them that much either, but they've taught a lot to the punk bands that came after!
    - The Clash: may I ask what they did to you?! Why is that?! If you hate punk so much because you don't "understand" it, throwing shade is just plain stupid, let me tell you!
    - Green Day: they should definitely be punished for the last album, the fault lies with their immature fans too, but they’re not that bad.
    - Twisted Sister and Poison: I could understand the latter, but the former not at all! And here I want some explanations!

The Edge fits in perfectly. What the hell does passion have to do with it? How do you measure it? It's just poor, that's all.

    26 feb 12
    I agree

  • ThePresident
    26 feb 12
The Edge has revolutionized the guitar with innovative sounds and a way of playing that is not technical but unique; anyone who insults him is a jerk.

  • hjhhjij
    26 feb 12
Still with this story? But what has been revolutionized? The Edge may have his own personal style (quite intangible, by the way) but HE HAS NOT REVOLUTIONIZED A DAMN THING! Are we joking? Unbelievable 0-0

  • hjhhjij
    26 feb 12
"The Edge has revolutionized the guitar with innovative sounds and a playing style that is not technical but unique." Really hilarious :D

  • ThePresident
    26 feb 12
@hjhhjij: I find the nonsense you're spouting hilarious, a testament to a certain musical arrogance/ignorance. I say 'revolutionize' when someone starts doing things in a way that's very distant and different from what we're used to. The Edge incorporated delay (and various effects) as an integral part of building riffs, not just as a mere sonic embellishment. What would you have done instead?

  • hjhhjij
    26 feb 12
I’m not a guitarist, so I don’t have to do anything :D The Edge, I repeat, you can like him as much as you want and no one can stop you, but it doesn't seem like a crime to challenge you. He hasn’t revolutionized anything (partially subjective opinion, partially not), there are other guitarists better than him, in technique, personal style, unique sound, and innovation. Did he introduce Delay and various effects? Good for him, but to me, he still falls short compared to many, many of his colleagues. Not for you though, you like him a lot. Amen, I don’t want to change your mind. Anyway, starting with "whoever contests him is a dickhead" isn’t nice. All I can say is that I find some of your statements hilarious because they don’t align with my thoughts at all and they’re quite "strong", but it's obviously said in a rather ironic and "jokey" tone. If your statement was also ironic, next time add a smiley because in these cases it's easy to create misunderstandings ;)

  • ThePresident
    26 feb 12
You're not a guitarist, so if you don't mind, your opinion matters even less; just say that you don't like it, and that's it, I can accept that.

  • ThePresident
    26 feb 12
I don't go judging a drummer by saying 'this is innovative,' 'this one can't play' because I'm not knowledgeable about it, so I can only express a modest subjective opinion with a 'I like it, it moves me' or 'it's not for me.'

  • ThePresident
    26 feb 12
Some even insult Bono, saying that he can't sing, that he has a half-octave range, etc... it may not be to everyone's taste, but it's arrogant to suggest that he doesn't master technique and vocal style.

  • hjhhjij
    26 feb 12
Bono has a beautiful voice; personally, I can't stand him, though :) Anyway, my opinions were absolutely subjective, that’s clear, and it’s equally clear that I didn’t explain myself well: I don’t like him at all, you like him a lot; however, the fact that I’m not a guitarist doesn’t stop me from explaining why I don’t like him, and I’ve already expressed my (subjective) reasons before. No arrogance or the classic "truth in my pocket," just an opposite stance to yours, because for me (and for others), he is none of what you think he is (and obviously, others do, too), but always FOR ME ;) It’s obvious and objective to me that there are better guitarists than him, but I accept that he is one of your favorite guitarists, without any problem. I evidently hadn’t explained myself well.
