The Meters - Cissy Strut

A FANKITE ATTACK… THAT NOBLE ONE…

Baltimore Oriole

Motherless Children

I’ve completely fallen in love with this girl. I knew nothing about her… I take one record, then another, then a third… I think I’ll end up getting the rest as well. From what little you can read, she’s surrounded by the typical total misfortune both in her personal and professional life. Last-minute publications and missed signatures, ignored collaborations… fabulous albums that hardly receive any attention. Her first partner died suddenly and the second passed away two years ago… She followed him just a few hours later.

Basically a female Tom Waits, with a sprinkle of Janis Joplin and Patty Smith. Disjointed blues, clumsy RnB. Her voice is a grumpy, capricious, naive, childish lament…

I’m including her - even if she doesn’t fit the sound much - for a mini showcase within the showcase, and if anyone knows more and wants to talk about it, please do…

Thanks Sandy, “better late than never” fits well this time for IlConte…

Today a friend shared this piece with me… could it be a sign that I should return to my “usual” listens?

Thank you, Sandy, "better late than never" fits perfectly this time for IlConte…

"Sentiment" is a new work by Claire Rousay. To be honest, I’m not convinced by the choice of the heavily processed voice used for much of the piece.

Ernest Hood - Neighborhoods (1975)
Among my forgotten CDs, an absolute gem, a journey into the mind, into the memories of the author.
