Sam Myers - I Got The Blues

Samuel Joseph "Sam" Myers became almost completely blind due to cataracts at the age of only seven, but this did not stop him from learning to play both the trumpet and harmonica, as well as the drums, with which he accompanied the legendary Elmore James from '52 until his passing (of JE) in '63 (struck down by a heart attack at just 45 years old).

From the early '60s until '86, Myers performed in clubs in Jackson and the surrounding areas as well as throughout the Southern States (where the infamous racial segregation was in effect) and in venues known as the "Chitlin' Circuit."

In 2006, just months before Myers' death (due to complications from surgery for throat cancer, in Dallas, Texas), the Governor of Mississippi awarded him the "Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts" and he was named "Blues Ambassador" by the "Mississippi Arts Commission" and that's it...
