So, here’s a little journey through countries, eras, and genres together with Birds on a Wire, a duo made up of Rosemary Standley and cellist Dom La Nena.
With originals (or other versions).
Because, sometimes, the beauty of cover albums also lies in the choice of songs.
In the original, a 12-year-old girl sings while her grandmother accompanies her on guitar. The song was written by the grandmother. She’s been doing this since she was a little girl herself: playing and inventing songs (as she herself told us here Elizabeth Cotten e il folk che incanta col suo fingerpicking unico ) but apparently in this case, the grandchildren also contributed. In short, it’s a family song.
Ah, in the cover this feature is kept—the male voice is actually Rosemary’s father, Wayne Standley, who also plays guitar.
We are in the United States, and it’s 1967.
