The president of the Abruzzo Region responds vehemently to accusations from D’Alfonso: “Described as the headmistress of ‘Faccetta nera,’ it’s all false: I hope this goes to court and someone waives parliamentary immunity.”

The president of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio of Fratelli d’Italia, isn’t taking it lying down and counterattacks the PD: “In thanking Minister Alessandro Giuli for the appointment of the board of directors of the National Archaeological Museums of Chieti, I want to express my solidarity with Professor Laura D’Ambrosio, who has been the victim of a real squad-style assault by the Democratic Party, promptly amplified by Repubblica.” Marsilio is unstoppable: “An assault founded on slander and misrepresentation that has been going on for three years now, fueled by the ‘grave wrongdoing’ of D’Ambrosio wanting to run in the last regional elections in support of me. Because, as is well known, if men and women involved in the world of schools, universities, culture, art and entertainment run with the left, they become a model of civic engagement and their contribution ennobles both politics and the party they are part of. If the same happens on the right, it is called ‘power grabbing’ and there are cries of exploitation of cultural institutions.”
Then, the president reconstructs the reason for the dispute, namely the song “Faccetta nera” being sung in the school in Nereto: “As already demonstrated in 2024, no child was ever ‘forced to sing Faccetta Nera’ in the school headed by D’Ambrosio, as the blustering PD deputy D’Alfonso once again accuses today. D’Ambrosio, upon receiving reports of such a serious incident, promptly launched the relevant disciplinary procedure. During the process, the ‘accused’ teacher amply demonstrated that there was no glorification (of fascism), nor was anything ‘forced’ on the students; the song was introduced only to reconstruct the cultural and social context of the era, duly preceded by a clear negative condemnation. Moreover,” Marsilio stresses, “the teacher accused of ‘fascist nostalgia’ had distinguished herself since 2016 for numerous and repeated initiatives commemorating the Day of Remembrance and other symbolic dates of Resistance and anti-fascism, in collaboration with the local branch of ANPI. For this reason, and after two occasions for meeting and clarifying with the parents of the class, the case was closed and filed away.”
