A contentious and idle question, or rather a question for capish, which I hope will not fail to interest the indefatigable splitters of hairs. Historical periodizations, both in detail and in general, are conventional, as we know. Yet, it sometimes happens that a historically verifiable fact is, rightly or wrongly, considered a watershed moment. Now, I would like to bring to your attention a seemingly insignificant fact that, upon closer inspection, can be regarded as a true turning point in Battiato's musical production: the collaboration with Sgalambro, which began in the fateful 1995 and ended only due to the untimely death of the latter. Although, of course, there are interesting works from the Sgalambro period (Gommalacca and Dieci stratagemmi above all), I believe I can assert, not without reason, that collaborating with Sgalambro was, for the good Francuzzo, a shipwreck.
I await your most welcome pronouncements on this biased issue, best regards to everyone.
