Well well... We are faced with an absolute masterpiece, a page of history, a symbol of mid-'90s England, the highest point reached by Oasis.
It has been labeled a brit pop album, but in reality, it's pure rock, even though it's undeniable that brit pop, a mass phenomenon on the island of Her Majesty at the time of this album's release, is present.
The aforementioned album is an exciting alternation of memorable songs, interspersed with a few ordinary but still not bad works. It starts with the sharp rhythm of "Hello", a worthy intro for the tracks that follow. The second track is "Roll With It", a brit pop song that sparked the feud between Oasis and Blur, being released as a single on the same day as "Country House" by Damon Albarn and company. Noel Gallagher himself considers it an unbearable piece, even though it is a particularly well-executed burst of energy. The third track, the most famous and an incredible hit, is "Wonderwall", a word with no precise meaning taken from the title of a George Harrison album; the melody is beautiful, moving, and combined with strings and various accompaniments, it's truly a standout piece.
But the most beautiful piece in the career of the Manchester group is the next one, "Don't Look Back In Anger", which begins with the intro of "Imagine"; here for the first time we hear Noel's voice, extraordinary both with the guitar and singing; the memorable solo of this song is something absolutely unique. Following "Don't Look Back In Anger" is "Hey Now", nice, catchy, but nothing special. Then there's the first single, "Some Might Say", beautiful, with no breaks or pauses, and flies by even though it lasts a good 5 minutes. Then, "Cast No Shadow", dedicated to Richard Ashcroft, sweet in its slow and repetitive rhythm, with Liam's voice superbly fitting the part, aided by his brother's background vocals. "She's Electric", the other brit pop piece, is a mediocre song, the least positive among all. And here comes the rock explosion of "Morning Glory", a chaos of guitars with a pressing and hard rhythm, a stroke of genius by Noel who wrote and imagined it while drunk. Finally, the dreamy "Champagne Supernova", for which no definitions exist to describe it.
In conclusion, this album goes down like water, without moments of boredom, on the contrary, with historical and inimitable pieces. Legendary Gallagher!
Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger are untouchable, timeless masterpieces.
The great success of this CD is deserved, but from here to say that it is a timeless masterpiece is a bit too far.
"You realize you don’t need a perfect knowledge of the instrument to write beautiful acoustic gems like 'Wonderwall' and 'Cast No Shadow'."
"I’ll keep my beloved idiots who don’t write ‘songs’ for idiots but rather, they write FANTASTIC ‘songs’ for idiots."
So I see them and I say "Let's give these sacks of shit a chance"...
I was so disgusted that I switched to ReteAllmusic...
The 12 gems contained in the album enter you like water and inevitably leave you with something you cannot erase.
'Wonderwall,' which remains to this day an indescribable song for ordinary people.
"Wonderwall" is a fundamental song of that entire decade.
"The masterpiece entirely written by Noel Gallagher definitively demonstrates his creative genius."
