Danko Jones - Woogie Boogie

Never Again

MADONNADANNATISSIMACHEBOTTA!!!

There was a time when hard rock, heavy metal, and punk were at each other's throats… BUT WHY??!!!

Lemmy put everyone back on the straight and narrow… he strolled (!)… and indeed he is quite the friend of DANKO.

DANKO, or rather Danko Jones, is a DEADLY Canadian power trio with the brother companion John Calabres and a rotating cast of drummers.

Kick-ass, rednecks, arrogant, perfectly ignorant, fuck-face and feel free to add more. Hard rock, heavy-metal-rap, PunkRock, heavypubgarage… PERFECT FOR SMALL CLUBS SMELLING OF ALCOHOL, STIMULATED HORMONES, AND… PUSSY.

For the first 10/12 years I guarantee, then they probably would have mellowed out a bit, predictable.

In fact, there’s a collection of b-sides and other tracks that sums up, more or less, the first decade…

CLUTCH, ACDC, MOTORHEAD, ZZTOP, RAMONES, HENDRIX … SHAKE AND GULP WITHOUT HESITATION.

Danko Jones - My Time Is Now

There was a time when hard rock, heavy metal, and punk were at each other's throats... BUT WHY??!!!

Lemmy set everyone straight… it’s a straight line (!)… and he’s indeed good friends with DANKO.

DANKO, or rather Danko Jones, are a KILLER power trio from Canada with the brotherly companion John Calabrese and some drummers that have come and gone.

Fucking hard-hitting, rednecks, arrogant, perfectly ignorant, assholes, and feel free to add anything you like. Hard rock, heavy-metal-rap, PunkRock, heavypubgarage... PERFECT FOR THE LITTLE CLUBS THAT SMELL OF ALCOHOL, STIMULATED HORMONES, AND... PUSSY.

For the first 10/12 years, I guarantee it, then they probably got a bit dull, predictable.

In fact, there’s a compilation of b-sides and more that summarizes roughly the first decade...

CLUTCH, ACDC, MOTORHEAD, ZZTOP, RAMONES, HENDRIX… SHAKE AND GULP WITHOUT HESITATION.

Whole Lotta Rosie

Bon is one of those people I care about so, so much, as you know.

A short but intense life… very intense… a death without realizing it… as it should be if you’re lucky…

Anyway, there are dozens of things about Bon, beyond just the music…

He entered the EISIDISI already “old”… in fact, he was about to pack it all in because the time had come… then fate intervened with a series of coincidences that only Rock’n’Roll could conjure up…

Anyway, on February 18, 1972, the Led Zeppelin were in Australia for their tour, which wasn’t particularly fortunate beyond the success. They weren’t allowed into Singapore, in Perth the crowd broke everything, and the next day in Adelaide the cops barged into the hotel looking for stuff because of a tip-off, plus a couple of terrible downpours on two other dates.

The fact is that history and legend tell us that that evening, precisely because of a postponed concert, Page and Plant went to listen to a young band from Sydney, Fraternity, at the Large Pier Hotel.

Hiding in a sort of private area, they sent someone to call that singer to have a chat… Bon, visibly drunk, told the guy to get lost. Then a roadie asked him why he hadn’t gone to see Jimmy Page and Robert Plant…

Bon ran outside screaming like a madman… but the Rolls Royce was in the distance, just pulling away… like a scene from a movie…

I Got It Covered

Space High

Crazy album... then in the end I'll tell you...

Glenn is another one of those I care about a lot. Forget about a book - a beautiful autobiography, anyway.

The tragicomic stories are countless, a totally insane life.

This one is funny. CHRISTMAS LUNCH 1976. Glenn Hughes is 24 years old, he's "king of the world"... mainly, he's completely out of his mind.

He says he's getting married, and the LUNCH is at his future in-laws'. A typical American Midwest family, husband, wife, five kids, and Thor, the dog.

Glenn lives among "rivers of alcohol, miles of drugs, and hundreds of groupies." Especially COCAINE.

The night before, he was already at his future in-laws' house, who kindly reserved a guesthouse for him.

It's tough to make it to the next day... he snorts a mountain of cocaine intending to destroy himself and sleep until the next day... avoiding all those phobias and paranoia that relentlessly plague him every day.

However, he wakes up in the middle of the night feeling like “shit”… “What’s that smell, fuck?” Then he realizes… he shit himself… or to be precise, in his future father-in-law’s bathrobe…

In the dead of night, he goes out into the garden, digs a hole, and buries the shit-filled bathrobe. It seemed perfect.

The LUNCH goes smoothly, which is a pleasure… then Thor shows up...

“Come here, puppy, show daddy what you have in your mouth”…

Proudly, Thor drops the bundle into his owner’s hands… it was the unearthed bathrobe…

Judas Priest - Beyond the Realms of Death (Audio)

About primordial metal…

These MI-CI-DIA-LI ballads with their customary arpeggio…

Rob throat - and not just - deep(ly) profound…

Def Leppard - Rock Brigade

It Could Be You

I loved Def Leppard… the early Def Leppard, to be precise, those from the first two albums, especially the first one with the massive truck and the huge guitar on top… Rocbrigheid, itcudbiiu, and the rest. That genuine sound of five young guys from the late seventies blending hard, glam, heavy…

Then there was Pyromania, especially Hysteria… I have to blame an ex-girlfriend for this one though…

After that, I don’t really know much… I lost interest in hair metal or pop metal, whatever you want to call it.

Above all, a lot of respect for them… as people.

On the night of January 7, 1991, Steve Clark, one of the two guitarists, was found dead by his girlfriend after yet another drunken night. He was 30 years old…

Clark was an alcoholic, and his bandmates always tried to help him cut back on drinking, at least the excessive kind. But when you're an alcoholic, you don't just have two beers… or even four…

They never thought about firing him, let alone them…

At 11, he started studying classical guitar, but two years later at a friend's house, “I heard Jimmy Page playing the riff from How Many More Times… I tossed the classical guitar aside and said ‘I’m going to play rock!’”

Success was waiting for him… but so was instability…

Oh, a small detail: in the documentary ‘Hysteria: The Def Leppard story’, you can see Steve throwing up in the bathroom… that level of pre-show anxiety never left him.

“I had the room next to Steve… unfortunately, I could hear the pain he was going through. One night before the start of a tour, he was trying to smash his knuckles on the sink to avoid having to play because he was scared to death before going on stage.”

“Don’t worry, I’m fine, he’d say… he had bruises all over.” He was so sweet, always apologizing for how he was…

Ah, he was a great rocker…

Riot - Swords & Tequila

RIOT [ FEEL THE SAME ] AUDIO TRACK

The metal that is primordial and genuine… Mark Reale and Guy Speranza…

Mark will always be the backbone of the band until death, while Guy retired to private life after the brilliant first three albums: Rock City, Narita, Fire Down Under.

Fire Down Under made the young Conte fall in love… an amazing album - just like the previous two.
“Metal album of the year,” I remember reading after listening to it... and it was indeed fantastic.

Guy retired because his religious beliefs were incompatible with the life of Rock’n’Roll, turning down, among other things, the attention of the big emerging bands of the NWOBHM.

His religious beliefs did not bring him much luck; he passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 46…

I will always thank him… Guy… among my favorite albums there’s also some metal… the genuine, sincere kind, mixed with hard rock and glam from the late 70s to the early 80s…

So much nostalgia…

The Doors 04 Backdoor Man Absolutely Live

Iggy Pop / Soul Asylum : Back door man

James Newell Osterberg Jr is twenty years old, and they've been calling him Iggy for a couple of years since he was a teenager playing in the Prime Movers.

The revelation of what is to come happens on October 20, 1967, at the University of Michigan during a concert by the Doors. The Los Angeles band has just unleashed a devastating one-two punch with their self-titled album and Strange Days.

Not exactly a quiet concert in Ann Arbor... one of many, perhaps among the first where Jim(bo) “killed” the audience.

Iggy, in the crowd, is thrilled by what he is hearing and... seeing.

“Jim was incredible, he wore leather pants and sang with a falsetto voice to piss off those idiots. The concert lasted maybe twenty minutes; things were getting out of hand, and they took Jim away before they could attack him. I was ecstatic, I loved that antagonist and the way he made them mad. I thought: these guys are number one in America. If he can do that, maybe I can do it too... I can’t wait any longer.”

Shortly after that concert, Iggy forms a band with the Asheton brothers and Dave Alexander...

The rest is (another) history...

Hemingway

“If you were lucky enough to live in Paris as a young man, wherever you go for the rest of your life, Paris will always be with you, because Paris is a movable feast”…

“Paris of the good old days, when WE WERE VERY POOR AND VERY HAPPY”…

It’s Hemingway's youth when nothing could ever go wrong. But “then came the bad season”…

“Writing is easy, all you have to do is sit down at the typewriter and bleed”…

While writing A Moveable Feast, he realizes he can no longer bleed and writes to a friend: “My friend, it’s my most beautiful book but I can’t finish it… I’m close… one page, maybe just one sentence”…

And when he realizes he can no longer bleed, he takes a rifle, puts it in his mouth, and kills himself…

No life without words… “then came the bad season”…

No life without emotions, I add…

The Butcher and Fast Eddy

Enough with the posers and depressed stuff... a genuine ignorant HARD-BOOGIE-PUB ROCK with that bald dwarf Angry from some dive where you either get drunk and yell and dance or throw bottles...

The little cousins of ACDC... Me and Bon really care about them...
