Whole Lotta Rosie
Bon is one of those people I care about so, so much, as you know.
A short but intense life… very intense… a death without realizing it… as it should be if you’re lucky…
Anyway, there are dozens of things about Bon, beyond just the music…
He entered the EISIDISI already “old”… in fact, he was about to pack it all in because the time had come… then fate intervened with a series of coincidences that only Rock’n’Roll could conjure up…
Anyway, on February 18, 1972, the Led Zeppelin were in Australia for their tour, which wasn’t particularly fortunate beyond the success. They weren’t allowed into Singapore, in Perth the crowd broke everything, and the next day in Adelaide the cops barged into the hotel looking for stuff because of a tip-off, plus a couple of terrible downpours on two other dates.
The fact is that history and legend tell us that that evening, precisely because of a postponed concert, Page and Plant went to listen to a young band from Sydney, Fraternity, at the Large Pier Hotel.
Hiding in a sort of private area, they sent someone to call that singer to have a chat… Bon, visibly drunk, told the guy to get lost. Then a roadie asked him why he hadn’t gone to see Jimmy Page and Robert Plant…
Bon ran outside screaming like a madman… but the Rolls Royce was in the distance, just pulling away… like a scene from a movie…
