The Blow Monkeys - Digging Your Scene
Believing they can reproduce them, many chase the atmospheres of these videos.
In vain.

Nu Guinea - Ddoje Facce
I would say a Naples much more resembling that "certain" Naples of the 70s/80s.
Than to the Naples of that loser Tony Colombo.
Who isn’t even Neapolitan.

SCIALPI - A... AMARE (remastering)

The #unthinkables.

The genetic mutation from Phil Oakey (Italian) to Dave Gahan (Italian) was complete.
The "new" Scialpi of '92 was all leather and a S&M belt, transparencies and a crucifix.
And a significant bulge to showcase.

Matia Bazar - Cavallo Bianco (#LIVE Авторадио)

In short, they, discovered by chance on a Russian channel, would be the "new Matia Bazar." I refrain, of course, from the usual discussions that occur in certain cases. It was just to bring this to attention.

Ultra - Say It Once (1998)

The #improposables

In '98 Di Caprio was God.
I remember TV contests for Di Caprio lookalikes, I remember barbers displaying his photos in their windows.
Everyone wanted his haircut, many tried to imitate him (or at least attempted to).
But the first ones were the boy-band singers.
Like a certain James Hearn, who to be honest didn’t exactly rock the Di Caprio look.
But almost all the promotional photos of the Ultra played on that (vague) resemblance.
Exactly, the Ultra. WHO?
Right, they were in the charts. But almost everywhere they landed in the Intertoto zone (back in '98 they still held the Intertoto, remember?).
Only in Italy did they come in first. It was August. MTV played the video at all hours.
James Di Caprio Hearn left the music career not long after.
“He abandoned me, this music show-business.”
Apparently, he said.

Mauro Repetto - Baciami qui (live)

The #unproposeables

The story didn’t end in '94, but had further developments. First the farewell to a friend, then the escape to America and the desperate pursuit of a dream film in New York. More or less like the elusive Brandy, the model "discovered in a magazine" but never met. She, the unreachable one, who was supposed to be the star of that film he produced. A scam, apparently worth millions, against him. Brandy is nowhere to be found, the film doesn’t get made, the dream fades away. For now. The return home, an album, the ultimate attempt to shake off the label of "the one who danced next to the one who sang." Big guests on that album (he brought them in, and who else but Cecchetto). There was also Demo Morselli, the legendary trumpeter of Maurizio Costanzo. From that album remains, indeed, an appearance on 'Un disco per l'estate.' In Riccione. But in Riccione, he was just passing through, because Disneyland Paris was already awaiting him.

Nego do Borel - Me Solta (kondzilla.com)
"Disarming" is the right term. I believe.

Christian Daniela ( Premiatissima '82)

The implausibles.

Perhaps it's obvious, but even open-goal shots need to be scored. The profession of Latin crooner tailored for the enjoyment of mature female audiences isn’t for everyone, nor can one pretend to be Julio without actually being one. (He too had a career cut short in its infancy, but the parallels with the madrileno and madridista don’t go further, and couldn’t).

It’s not even enough to have a name ending in -ela, as long as it’s not Manuela. And it’s not sufficient to have a phone receiver with wings.

Tonolec - La cazadora
From Chaco (Argentina).
The remarkable debut of this duo, over a decade ago.

Les Prêtres - Spiritus Dei (Sarabande)

The unthinkables.

To the more attentive (that is, you who aren’t wasting time on Bowie and the Velvet Underground and other stuff like that), I had already introduced these gentlemen.

But the eternal question remains:
will they be for or against gay unions?

Morenito de Fuego - I DO U feat. Fito Olivares
The cumbia that’s the most sophisticated and fashionable (but done well).
Among the many cumbias making their way to Mexico these days.

Il Divo - Adagio (Live Video)

The unimaginable.

So.

There’s a Spaniard, a Frenchman, an American, and a Swiss.

It might seem like the beginning of a joke, but...
...but...

Pioneers of CLASSIC CROSSOVER, standard-bearers of POP OPERA, international flag-bearers of BEL CANTO.

Before Il Volo.

Repertoire?
From Schubert to Eric Carmen, from Aznavour to 'Caruso', from Elvis to Bocelli.
Anything as long as it's MELODIC, seamlessly.
And without shame.

Albinoni's Adagio, Live from Arena di Pola - Croatia.
(with fireworks at the end).

Yomo - Quedate Aqui (Official Video)
Time for some initial assessments, and so:
video (Latin) of the year.
Dedicated to @[sergio60]

Angelo Branduardi - Il Poeta Di Corte (1977)
In line with the current invasion of crows
(never seen before, here on the coast).

Ray Barretto - Acid
Great master conguero.

GIORGIA FIORIO - Avrò (SANREMO 1983 - Prima Esibizione Live)

The unthinkable.

A dad in Formula 1, three appearances at Sanremo, a stint in cinema with 'Sapore di mare'.

And 'Sapore di mare 2 - un anno dopo'.

Not to mention a great passion for photography
(possibly greater than for music?).

Furmiga DUB - Saudadidela
Carimbó + Reggaeton.

Konty - Through The Night
A bit less tanned than today.
But listen to that beat and that Anglo-Florentine cadence, nothing to do with New Order and Human League.

Alcazar - Crying At The Discoteque (Video)

The Improbables.

Swedish ensemble specialized in copying and pasting old Disco classics (in this case, 'Spacer') and offering essential euro-dance reinterpretations of Chic and Human League.

They perform choreographies that, in their own way, were supposed to appear ironic.

Someone said "they are the new ABBA."
But that someone hasn’t been seen since 2002.

David Hasselhoff - Hooked on a Feeling

The unthinkable (second wave, which may not be the last).

The indestructible (?) star of Knight Rider and Baywatch, who often set aside the lifebuoy in favor of the microphone. Delivering memorable clips.

Set against National Geographic-style reportage backdrops from the early '90s, amidst flying angels and African tribes jumping, we find him engaged in daring photomontages and spectacular motorcycle stunts and tricks.

Big Mountain - Baby I Love Your Way(1994)

The outrageous.

The silhouette of a solitary saxophonist atop a cliff (made of cardboard?) hints at the reggae-pop remake of a well-known classic by Peter Frampton.

Of which, probably, there wasn't really this great need.

Barry Manilow Copacabana

The unthinkable.

A hat, a piña colada in the pineapple, and fake palms are fine.
But it’s only the all-white outfit in the second part that makes things clear.
