Guys, everyone to Frascati. What can I say, I can’t even find the Porcupine in my shop. The fact remains that I consider The Sky Moves Sideways a masterpiece, Coma Divine as a live masterpiece, Signify and On the Sunday of Life as great albums, and even in the others, albeit much less successful, there are sometimes songs of great value. Amen. If you don’t like the Porcupine, tough luck, but that's your problem. Don’t say they are overrated because that’s complete nonsense, and now 90 percent of the people who walk in here point that out. On Ondarock, the ratings for the Porcupine are honestly spot on; it’s not true at all that they are inflated. It simply states, rightfully, that they have been overlooked in their home country.

Yes, but you can't rely on debaser regarding the overvaluation of a band. Anyway, my ratings (expressed in out of five) for their albums I've listened to are: On the Sunday of Life (4), Up the Downstairs (3.5), The Sky Moves Sideways (4.5), Signify (4), Coma Divine (4.5), Stupid Dream (2), Metanoia (2.5), Lightbulb Sun (3), In Absentia (3.5). I give Lightbulb Sun an extra point because of "Russia on Ice," an outstanding song; otherwise, it would deserve a 2. I round the two 4.5s up to 5.

I saw them at the gods too (the one in 2005) and they really seemed like clowns to me. Then there was that Eastern guitarist whose name I can't even remember (or a single note from all that drivel) who must have been tortured as a child. It's clear that he never really understood what it means to make music.

Yes, but do you realize that if the hardcore fans you’re talking about are a small group of 300 people, it means that Porcupine Tree is not artistically recognized? The overvaluation is inferred from the number of fanatic people, not from the degree of fanaticism of 1 (!) person. What kind of logic is this?

1) It's now taken for granted that porcupine tree are not an overrated band. But I mean, do we know the definition of the terms we use? If 1,000 people call them great, may I suggest that they are underrated compared to Dream Theater, who are praised by hundreds of thousands? How the hell can they be overrated if their concerts rarely exceed 500 people, for crying out loud?
2) The albums you mentioned, Lux, are great albums, no doubt about it. But I believe that the albums from the early period of Porcupine Tree hold the same value as those you mentioned, even though they belong to a different genre.
3) Wilson has been a great composer and remains an excellent guitarist. I don't understand why we should undermine the value of a band that has written four great albums just because their recent releases are lesser. The value of those albums remains. Now everyone is praising Mozart as an absolute genius, but do you know how much crap he produced during his career as a composer? To downplay him because of that crap would be a sign of extreme superficiality. Which is what you are demonstrating. If they now consider Deadwing a great album, even though it's not, I can only be glad, since Porcupine Tree needs to be known more than ever.

No, Porcupine Tree are not overrated. Rather, this album may be overrated.

If for you it was a matter of votes... well, it's not with votes that I've ever killed a person. For me, votes have a very relative value. Opinions are what really matter.

I'll repeat: if this deadwing is like the last releases I've heard from Porcupine (excluding in absentia), then you are absolutely right about the album. It's true, Wilson writes increasingly banal stuff that he rarely elevates with some gems (like in lightbulb sun where there was russia on ice). That was not the monumental mistake I emphasized.
