The greatest genius doesn't mean the best! De Gregori was much more poetic and certainly knew how to use the Italian language better than Rino, but I prefer Rino because he was able to tackle important, sad, and problematic themes without making them feel heavy, and with simplicity, turning his songs into seemingly nonsensical nursery rhymes. Because those who listen to Rino without paying attention and without thinking about it will believe they are listening to catchy tunes to sing along with drunken friends perhaps, but if you listen to him carefully, he will make you reflect and sing with joy, and only a genius can accomplish that! For heaven's sake, De Gregori is a great singer-songwriter, but certainly not a genius!
