Well, putting Battiato among the singer-songwriters of the '75/'80 period seems more than excessive to me. His works at that time were more than niche; Rino was much more popular, at least among those I hung out with. At 16, I could no longer stand the oversized pretentiousness typical of Guccini's memory. Rino had brought a breath of fresh air. As for whether he was better or worse than others, I won’t judge; I repeat, at 16/18 I listened to a lot, perhaps too much, Gaetano, Fortis, Zero, Faust'o, Ruggeri/Decibel, Garbo. I became passionate about the classic singer-songwriters like de André, Guccini, Vecchioni, de Gregori (generalmente la amo) later on, when with age, I lost the joy of Saturday night drunkenness. (A special mention goes to Gaber, as he was carefree enough for me to enjoy even at 12.)
