The Doors The Doors

Anyway, the one about Manzarek's organ is strong though (I think the comparison fits..), but Morrison's voice doesn't seem pompous to me at all.

I hope you respond to my intervention, Francis. I’m a fan of the Doors, so it’s obvious I can’t share your musical tirade. However, the review is very good, especially because it offers a thought-provoking perspective on a group that has made history. A perspective that makes even genre aficionados like me reflect. I would ask this: is it possible that everyone who considers this group a legend is an incompetent fool? Music critics all over the world, the public, even historical bands naming the Doors as a primary source of inspiration... are they all clueless? Or perhaps there is artistic substance in this band, in a piece like Light My Fire or The End, which you have predictably panned, in Morrison’s lyrics, in his interpretive skills, in the originality of the music (maybe you don’t find it original?)? In short, I can understand if you don’t like them or if you have a gut antipathy for the group. Those are legitimate positions. And you’re right to express them in a review (which, however, doesn’t mention the album’s tracks at all). But perhaps a bit more respect is called for, at least for those of us who love this group (and there are many of us).

Fantastic.
Dream Theater Master Of Puppets
Voto:
Absolutely. The sore point is LaBrie, fantastic in the Theater environment but out of place in the Metallica zone.
Dream Theater Dark Side Of The Dream

@mayhem: What I don't understand is who decides that LaBrie is not suited for the music he makes; I find such a judgment rather aberrant. Who determines if someone is suitable or not? But do you really think Portnoy and Petrucci would have hired him and kept him if he wasn't suited for the Theater's music? Another thing is to say FOR MY TASTE AND MY CONCEPTION OF METAL LaBrie is not suitable... then it becomes a matter of personal evaluation, and in this case I bow my head because it's perfectly valid not to tolerate a singer. I agree with you that the cover of Master of Puppets was not done well at all; in fact, the voices are too different. I liked Number of Beasts more because I think the voices are more similar in that case.
Dream Theater Live Scenes from New York
Voto:
the best live performance I’ve ever heard. Simply exhilarating. Aside from the other members, whose expertise has been discussed and praised endlessly, I was incredibly surprised by LaBrie, who delivered a superhuman performance considering the length of the concert, the choice of pieces, and his recent surgery. I was truly left speechless... and after having seen Yes, Zeppelin, Genesis, and the rest of the cream of the seventies progressive scene, it’s really not easy to leave me astonished. Fantastic.

It's not your fault; it's the fault of those who publish you and of assholes like me who read you.
Yes Going For The One

Look, in some respects, like courage, subversive capacity, ability to contest and the like, I definitely agree with you. But creativity in the strict sense... I don’t know, the thing is plausible anyway.
Lou Reed Perfect Night

Well, Lou Reed is this, take it or leave it... I take it!

And yet, they have never lowered themselves to the pathetic level of Genesis, which does them honor...
