"There are millions of extreme lefts. Some are bad (Stalin, Pol Pot...) and some are positive (Lenin, Marx, Ho Chi Minh, Mao...)." <<< Mao? Did I read that right? Mao Zedong? Positive? Mao Zedong as a positive expression of extreme left ideology?

splendid review, one of your best, memento...these TITD have never inspired me...from how you describe them, they give me the impression of a fascinating, evocative, devastating group, but also hypertrophic, excessive, unbalanced...who knows...could they be like unwound? only by listening to them will I find out...

I don't know much about this English folk scene... I've stuck to the duet of the Fairport girl with R. Plant in Battle of Evermore! :-) great review too...

a good rock'n'roll revival band, able to pay tribute to an era so distant yet so close... great retrieval...

I listened to it... a nice blues record... I don’t quite feel the cramps... rather, the gun club, but much less wave... the final country track, Ten Wheels For Jesus, is beautiful... you can tell they are Australian... regarding the discussion you had earlier about Australian rock, it is indeed generally more genuine compared to Anglo-American models, which don't possess the genius (with some isolated exceptions)... the beauty of the Australian new wave is that it knew how to fit into channels carved out elsewhere, but always with a freshness that kept them away from mere and bland imitation... the compilation Tales, in my opinion, can be very useful for capturing different facets of new-wave rock...

I’ll have a friend who’s into metal check this out for me... but do they happen to sound like Atheist? I didn’t like the review, simply because ā€œit’s everything and the opposite of everything, the hypnosis before the end, the feeling of a dream that haunts us just after waking, a journey to the limits of the mind and human knowledgeā€ is a comment that could apply to thousands of albums...
The Firm The Firm

Supergroups are always a big question mark: sometimes a pleasant chemistry, most of the time a mishmash that tastes like nothing (as Shooty points out regarding the Firm).
Electrelane Axes
Voto:
What makes Axes an interesting album and not shamelessly derivative of Stereolab is, in my opinion, the presence of the piano as a guiding instrument, with its intoxicating progressions... my favorite tracks are the most surreal: Eight Steps and I Keep Losing Heart, featuring unpredictable brass inserts... well done K, a very pleasant reception... and thanks once again to Trell for the suggestion...

For now, I'm focusing on axes... I might take this one up later...
