THE REVIEW

Calling it death is too little. I don't want to talk to you about the release year, the history of the band members, or the individual tracks. Others have already done this, and probably better than I would.

I want to tell you what Focus IS.

Focus is everything and the opposite of everything, the hypnosis before the end, the dreamlike sensation that haunts us as soon as we wake up, a journey to the limits of the mind and human knowledge... this is no longer music, no longer amplifiers, basses, snares, and hi-hats, riffs and solos... this is much, much more... this, this is the most incredible experience of your life...

Only one album from these geniuses, but perhaps it's better this way, perhaps it's better to exhaust one's creative vein in one single, colossal project rather than insist and risk boring the audience with endless releases, risking becoming heavy, repeating themselves...

Only one album. One. A single powerful, vigorous flame before burning out.

One... Maybe it was written in destiny...

It is immense, definitely Progressive Death Metal, unmistakable are the very fast riffs, which flow regularly and uninterruptedly, but which allow you to savor their complexity.

Undoubtedly a work that would enrich even, and I dare say especially, those who are not metal enthusiasts.

The album is mostly developed on absolutely extraordinary bass lines and drumming.

The song 'Uroboric Forms' is certainly the most successful episode of all; wonderful crescendo and twilight atmospheres.

"Focus" was released in 1993 by Roadrunner Records, resulting in an exceptional album that truly cannot be categorized into any particular genre.

The distinctive element of Cynic is indeed the vocals of Paul Masvidal, featuring both vocoder and death voice.
