Butthole Surfers Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac
Voto:
"...not at all intellectualized and not at all metropolitan..." True! The Butthole Surfers are genuine Rednecks! Perhaps more than west-coast psychedelia, I would refer to it as southern, Texan psychedelia, the kind that comes from deep America, far away from the big cities that line the two coasts: so you were right to mention their fellow countrymen Red Crayola!

A remarkable album, but scattered. It's not one of those works I enjoy relistening to, perhaps because (even though I appreciate Black Sabbath) I'm not particularly fond of those soundscapes... Anyway, 3 truly inspired musicians...
Alice In Chains Dirt

Among the best results produced by the Seattle school. It’s definitely worth a listen. Personally, I prefer them to Soundgarden.

I admire Last Exit and especially Corduroy. I'm not crazy about the ballads, though. Overall, it’s a great piece of work.

Festwca, don't worry, it could very well be that the next time I listen to it, it will seem superior to any other album I've ever heard, maybe even to Atomizer... :-) You know how it is: with each new listen, one's judgment of an album can change... Question for the staff: why was "metal" added among the genres?
Electric Light Orchestra Discovery

Great review, Piergiorgio! Perhaps you meant the Pink Floyd and Genesis as "challenging" music, rather than "committed." I don't know this album; I only have two (beautiful) songs by ELO: "Mr Blue Sky" and "Livin' Thing." :-)
Tuxedomoon Half Mute

From the most British wave-band of the States, an album that moves between the homemade craftsmanship of fellow citizens The Residents and the synth-dark influences from across the sea. One of the most disorienting records of the era, if only for its eccentric instrumentation. That saxophone sends shivers down my spine. A "romantic" album, in the highest and noblest sense of the term. And when you find yourself facing that kind of accordion languishing in "5th column," you understand that this is not just any record...
The Feelies Crazy Rhythms
Voto:
Inspired by Velvet, Neu, and Television, the Feelies created one of the masterpieces of the new wave: their minimalist contrapuntal technique has influenced two decades of alternative rock. Even Slint, take note...
Mercury Rev Yerself Is Steam
Voto:
Sober and clear reception. Fascinating album: a commendable example of modern psychedelia. In the series: how to reconnect to the sixties without falling disgracefully into revivalism. Compared to other neo-psych bands of their time, these were a notch above. A pleasant album also because it is very varied, eclectic, surprising, and brave in the choice of sounds and styles: there is space for all sonic idioms and their (sometimes grotesque) amalgamation is miraculously balanced and coherent.

I fell in love with the stunning bass line of Saddest Song. Like, really badly.
