Liebezeit is an extraterrestrial castaway, arrived in 1970s Germany. He brought to our planet musical knowledge that, at the time and even today, only aliens could boast of.
XTC Drums And Wires

Beautiful. I only have their first record, White Music, which is packed with ideas and references, but it's too long (more than twenty songs, if I remember correctly). Anyway, it's significant to note that even a "sick" scene like the new wave had its pop soul (in addition to XTC, think of Blondie and Cars). One doubt, donjunio: which avant-garde of that era do you think has "aged poorly"?
Trapeze You Are The Music, We're Just The Band

"Unfortunately, if the aforementioned mixture of Funky/British Rock Blues/Soul was unheard of in 1972, by 1978 it was well-known, and thus the record went unnoticed... But we will discuss this separately." <<< We could talk about it here too, but the risk is that it will degenerate into the usual head-on clash for or against the dinosaurs... Let's do this: let’s draw a line in the sand, form two teams, and play ball-fire. The line is '77: referee Richard Hell.

Sure. No problem! You do it then (also because, now that I think about it, I don't believe that VS is "my type of review"... I might end up making a mess...). Good luck! I can't wait to read it. :-)
The Mothers Of Invention Freak Out!

Of course, Godbowl, but my point wasn't about "Art vs Entertainment," it was more about "Rock vs Other"... What I meant to say is that I find it forced to categorize groups like Popol Vuh rather than Tangerine Dream or Soft Machine in the "rock" category, given that these groups have clearly different foundations from rock (classical, electronic, jazz). I don't believe that Popol Vuh represents an evolution of rock music, but rather something that is (GENERALLY SPEAKING) independent of rock, something that has evolved alongside rock. Sure, it's obvious that there are contaminations (in Hosianna Mantra there's a guitar that sounds like Jerry Garcia), and probably psychedelia influenced Popol Vuh and cosmic/kraut music in general... However, I believe that a group like Popol Vuh has impacted currents that are antithetical to rock, such as new age. Just as, another example, Kraftwerk represented not an evolution of rock in the 70s, but an alternative.

But I AM a cyborg (I had a small role in Blade Runner): my purpose is to convert readers to listening to Lubricated Goat. (I admit it: I copied the review from Malavoglia!) :-D
Soft Boys Underwater Moonlight

I listened to it and I liked it. 10 stunning songs. Hitchcock declared that he wanted to make an album where Abbey Road and Trout Mark Replica would marry. I can definitely hear the Beatles (and also Byrds, Vu, and Floyd), but I only find the captain in Old Pervert. Anyway, it's an album that still feels very fresh, inspired, and captivating today. Very sixties, for sure, but all in all, you can feel that they were already in the 80s, either due to the recovery of the song format (the psych-rock of the 60s mainly featured elongated, improvised jams or eccentric miniatures like those of Barrett or the early Traffic), the pulsating and driving rhythms, or the abrasive guitars. They are somewhat a colorful and imaginative version of the Dream Syndicate (whom I don't particularly love), who during the same period were reviving psychedelia and classic rock and updating it to their times. Let's say that the DS were a bit of a "roots," visceral, "substantial" version of the Soft Boys (it's also from these things that you notice the differences that separate English rock from American rock).

Well, "The Deer Hunter" is not so much a film about the Vietnam War but about friendship <<< agreed
