Martin Scorsese L'Ultima Tentazione Di Cristo
Voto:
This film is a striking demonstration of how it is possible to create Christian cinema while being scandalous, of how one can have an authentic, visceral view—far from being puritanical and moralistic—of religious faith... Scorsese is Catholic, and all his films unequivocally testify to that...

Pietro, I disagree: I believe that few other films like this manage to illustrate so clearly the "motives" that lead a well-meaning veteran like T.Bickle to turn to crime... it’s not simply the fact of being rejected by a spoiled girl (actually, a stunning one: Miss Cybil Shepherd, to me the most beautiful woman in New Hollywood), but a whole series of motivations (sometimes explicit, sometimes underlying) that gradually drive the cab driver mad... Floyd (welcome back ;-)) in this review mentioned the scene with Scorsese's cameo ("And do you know who my wife is sleeping with? A negro!")... this and other sequences from the first part of the film lead Travis into an abyss of hatred, intolerance, paranoia that culminates in violence. There's nothing fragile about this film: it's a steel script written by Schrader (imho, the best American screenwriter of that era).

beautiful, I had never heard them... a gritty cow-punk, but I prefer the Meat Puppets...
Big Black Atomizer

Thank you, Don...eheheh but it's well known that Corgan had weird tastes: he was crazy about Boston! But I believe the reason for this hostility is the way Albini interpreted "I'm A Whore" by Cheap Trick (covered on Songs About Fucking) :-)))

Thanks...yes, wonderful also Songs About Fucking...but I would wholeheartedly promote the entire production of Big Black, so also the EPs (they made as many as 5 and contain some incredible gems!).

These are really strange; at first, they didn’t mean anything to me, but then they grew on me with repeated listens... they’re hard to define... at times they sound like the Residents, and at other times, who knows... I like them because they have a funny and playful approach to electronic music and cut-and-paste... then there are a couple of tracks that almost seem like a parody of house music before house was even invented! I mean, some delirious DJ sets... an album full of so many great things... recommended for everyone a bit... oh, but what happened to Skifia??

Stoopid, I’ll make a trip to your area sooner or later (reason: limoncello) ;-DDD The merit of Unsane compared to Unwound is their greater conciseness (Unwound is pretty good, but they make me feel like I have milk in my knees for how verbose they are, and they are too indebted to Sonic Youth, while Spencer has managed to create a personal path stemming from the albinian model)... compared to GvsB, however, Unsane has the advantage of being much more visceral, genuine, and far less self-satisfied... also because GvsB were ultra-stuffed with keyboards, using two basses, etc... but what’s the point of all that? what’s the purpose of all this display of means, when Unsane knew how to generate such a dense sound that was, in its own way, "symphonic" with the basic rock instrumentation? As you said in the review: that’s limitless class from Spencer...
