In other words, punk aimed to disdain the logic of profit that underpinned the record industry, or am I wrong?

Well, I would start with Faust IV, which is probably the quirkiest and most extravagant kraut record: enjoy!

In fact, the CCCP were geniuses... De Gregori didn't do rock... when I talk about rock, I mean rock (not singer-songwriter, folk, Italian song, or anything else!)... R-O-C-K

I meant the British anarcho scene... it goes without saying that there were also a lot of "anarchic" and politicized groups in the States (DK, MDC, DRI, Dicks, and many others).

The Buzzcocks were legendary! Then there was the whole Anarcho scene (which came later, we were already in the '80s), with Crass (who don't excite me much), Discharge (devastating!), Rudimentary Peni (whom I discovered recently...very unique...I recommend listening to Death Church).

The Damned were highly respected, a legendary band, when it comes to punk you hear their name everywhere... they released the first English punk record (a few weeks before the Pistols)... they were known for their "horror" look... Sham 69, on the other hand, were typical pub punk and made raw songs to sing at the top of your lungs after a few pints of beer... I don't think they're your "kind" (but neither mine), yet they did manage to hit a few memorable anthems...
