1977 is generally associated with the punk movement that was born in the United Kingdom (and by reflection also in the States) and stemmed from a deep unease and an uncontrollable desire for rebellion against everyone and especially the British monarchy and any form of political and social control. And it is precisely in 1977 that all this translates into music; a raw, noisy music that goes straight to the gut... precisely "punk" music, cheap and with three chords. Albums like Never Mind The Bollocks by the Sex Pistols and Rocket To Russia by the Ramones, or the eponymous LP by the Clash, all icons of punk rock music, are from 1977.

Young, Loud and Snotty by the American Dead Boys was also released in 77. Certainly less known, but no less important for that reason, this album contributed to the birth and spread of punk music in the States. Sonic Reducer, which opens the album, can undoubtedly be considered one of the classics of this genre, alongside Anarchy in the UK by the Pistols. But even the other tracks on the album hold their own. Not Anymore has an arpeggiated and distorted start accompanying Stiv Bators' hoarse voice, while the riff in Caught With The Meat In Your Mouth recalls AC/DC as does that of I Need Lunch. There are also clear references to Iggy Pop's Stooges (whose voice Bators' resembles greatly) in Down In Flames and High Tension Wire. 11 tracks (the last being a sort of medley between Not Anymore and Ain't Nothing To Do) totaling 34 minutes and 35 seconds of pure punk, the real thing, the one made in 77 but with American roots, and you can feel the difference.

Bators and company remained active for another two years, until 1979, releasing another studio album in 78, We Have Come For Your Children. Subsequently, the Dead Boys took different paths but reunited in 1989, reprising their most representative album with a slightly different title Younger, Louder and Snottier, which included demos and unreleased tracks. In 1990, Bators died in a traffic accident in France, earning himself rightfully and without the noise he had produced just a few years before, a place alongside the preachers of punk and rock in general.

Tracklist Lyrics and Videos

01   Sonic Reducer (03:04)

I don't need anyone
Don't need no mom and dad
Don't need no pretty face
Don't need no human race
I got some news for you
Don't even need you too

I got my devil machine
Got my electronic dream
Sonic reducer
Ain't no loser
I'm a sonic reducer
Ain't no loser

People out on the streets
They don't know who I am
I watch them from my room
They all just pass me by
But I'm not just anyone
Said I'm not just anyone

I got my devil machine
Got my electronic dream
Sonic reducer
Ain't no loser
I'm a sonic reducer
Ain't no loser

I'll be a pharaoh soon
Rule from some golden tomb
Things will be different then
The sun will rise from here
Then I'll be ten feet tall
And you'll be nothing at all
