Double Nickels struck me right away... their songs have never seemed the same to me... one of the few cerebral and communicative bands at the same time, unlike other so-called jazz-core Californian bands, Saccharine Trust in primis...

I've only listened to Whatever That Hurts... it's not my kind of music...

Thank you, Iride! For me, GI is the first hardcore record in history, for the reasons I explained to you last week in the review of peggiopunx by Minor Threat, reasons that are both formal (no punk band of that time could rely on a rhythm section like that of the Germs) and substantial (the shift from raw socio-political invective to existential reflection).

great catch...this album is a gem...but it has nothing to do with punk...it's pure reggae-pop...the review is well done, but some points left me puzzled: I believe the first all-female punk band were the Runaways, even though their music was still heavily influenced by glam; the Slits weren't exactly riot (too cheerful); they were quite skilled musicians (especially the drummer).
Joni Mitchell Blue

bjorky, I only know Blue and Hejira... Hejira is more sophisticated in its arrangements, but the style is unmistakably Mitchellian! :-)

Touché! (Is it spelled this way?)

Yes, but when will I make sensible comments?
