Who Face Dances
Who Face Dances
30 jul 06
Voto:
One of the least successful by The Who, even though certain musical passages with the keyboards remain unmatched. An example of how the great ones (or rather, the greatest), even when lacking inspiration, manage to come up with things that we mere mortals could never do.
Morgan Canzoni Dell'Appartamento
Voto:
And we were only missing Morgan. He sings De André and then Gaber - he sings everyone, as long as they’re dead. Useless record, an even worse review.
Morgan Non al denaro non all'amore né al cielo
Voto:
Well, then let's take shots at the Red Cross and the victims of Beirut, let's shoot at the dead in World War II and let's shoot at the volunteers of the Civil Service. Let's shoot at all these people, oh yes, because if someone like Francesco Genovese comes to tell me that this awful, boring, moralizing, pretentious, arrogant reworking of a De André pinnacle completely redone by that unfortunate Bluevertigo (by the way, is he still with that other corpse, Asia Argento?) deserves a 4, well then everything is fair and anything is possible. Let's shoot at everyone who does good, let's shoot at everyone who believes in a better world, and let's shoot at half of South Africa too. But by what right do you come to tell us such a foolishness? I dare say, I have a proposal: let’s have Dj Francesco (oops, Francesco) redo "Emozioni" by Battisti. And then we call Francesco Genovese and say, "What are you doing, can you write us a nice review on DeBaser after you glorify the album and rate it a 4, or better yet, a 5." After all, since you say Morgan has been able to recreate the pathos of De André, then damn it, even the Matia Bazar have managed to recreate the pathos of Gaber. Actually, no, sorry, that’s just my speculation: the Matia Bazar never redid Gaber. Oh no, indeed not, that would really be too much, a lethal and fatal blow to the world of music. We were saved, by a little, but we were saved...
New York Dolls One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This
Voto:
Ah, the old dolls who loved to dress like whores. It's been 32 years and it feels like a century; I don't have this record, but I used to love them to death. I'll go right away to buy it (ahem, to download it) and then I'll let you know. Anyway, I don't really like the review.
Bob Dylan Oh Mercy
Voto:
As I have already written in one of my reviews (specifically about "Oh Mercy", by the way), it's a masterpiece, the best of Dylan's second phase of his career, undoubtedly superior to the beautiful "Infidels". A review that is so-so.
Wheatus Teenage Dirtbad (CD single)
Voto:
I respect everyone, and you too, Sexyajax. But these Wheatus, I say this with all my heart, who the hell has ever heard of them? And then that cover, like something out of a flower child era with a flashy car in the foreground and the usual story of boy-girl-love-happiness-music seems terribly predictable. They might be really talented, they could be geniuses, anything is possible...
Disturbed Ten Thousand Fists
Voto:
Terrible review (short, few details, unnecessary repetitions), although I must say you almost managed to pique my curiosity (often the less appealing reviews intrigue me more than the well-written ones, strange huh?). Even though this nu-metal group (as you pointed out in the degenerates) really doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. They all seem so terribly alike, but, be careful, that's my limitation; it’s not true that they are all terribly alike.
Van Morrison Magic Time
Voto:
The review is really well done, unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the album. And that's serious, considering that Van Morrison is one of my favorite artists (despite having disappointed me a bit lately).
Depeche Mode Violator
Voto:
A nice album (historical for some) but, come on, not a masterpiece. The pop is always vibrant, but even the electronic sound feels heavy at times. In the production phase, the great Flood (producer of U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails) has created a kind of compromise: a good album for 60%, a bit basic for the other 40. Of course, there are at least two absolutely extraordinary tracks, "Personal Jesus" (a great blues) and the melancholic dance track "Enjoy the Silence." I could also give it a 4, but when compared to the subsequent "Songs of Faith And Devotion" (a 5, the masterpiece of Depeche Mode), I can only give this a 3. Anyway, "Violator" is one of those classic albums that, released in a specific historical period, made history (entirely or partially depending on personal taste) of that era and that moment. Perhaps, as is the case here, beyond its actual merits: good for sure, but far from excellent. The review doesn’t convince me, it’s short and boring. A few more words and some additional thought should have been spent.
Brendan Perry Eye Of The Hunter
Voto:
A more than sufficient review (kudos to Mago Houdini), the artist in question has only reached my ears on rare occasions, and I know very little about him. Expressing my opinion on this album would be a gamble, especially since I have never listened to it. I trust the excellent judgment of the Punisher (he gives it a solid 4), and I will try to inform myself more about this artist.
