Good music still exists. Morgan is the proof.
After the US influence waves of hip hop and r'n'b that boast poor imitations in Italy, in 2003 Morgan's 'Le canzoni dell'appartamento' was released. In the record industry politics of recent years, this album is totally a voice out of the chorus, finally an album that leaves aside the commercial aspect and aims at the quality of music.
A slow but progressive melody that gives space to always very strong lyrics and a voice with a remarkable range; this piece is elsewhere. The baby is the potentially commercial track of the album, which received fair rotation on music networks but actually has a text that surprises with a truly original melody. Crash is a pure piece in Morgan's style, as usual an original and always meaningful text supported by playful music.
Aria surrenders to the piano and the voice, magnetic. 31 seconds of piano is the length of Evaporazione, an excellent intro for De André's cover of Non arrossire. The album continues to flow quickly from a very pleasant Me to the second cover Se (if) by Pink Floyd, reimagined with great originality. Melancholic and poignant music for italian violence, probably the strongest track of the album, followed by Heaven in my cocktail which is fast and compelling, almost contrasting the melancholic atmosphere of the Ragioni delle pioggie.
The album closes with, as it could not be otherwise, Canzone per natale, a piece that is nothing short of delightful, highlighting Morgan's beautiful lyrics as usual: "le finestre accese le ombre tutte quante insieme a conversareper le strade tetre del quartiere un nuovo centro commerciale alberi che puntualmente giorno dopo giorno vengono a mancare".
In short, in the high-fidelity collection of every good music enthusiast, this album simply cannot be missed.
I like this album despite the character getting on my nerves.
In his first solo effort, Morgan gives us an eclectic, passionate, light, sorrowful, naive, and highly original album... in short: a must-listen.
