I ask all Debaser readers about to read this review to have respect for this CD, respect for sexyajax, respect for Wheatus, respect for the "teenage dirtbag".
The song symbolizing the rise of Wheatus in the late '90s is called "teenage dirtbag". The song not only reflects the American fable of what college is like, but how life truly is in American college without parodies, without exaggerations, everything is just as it appears in this splendid song.
The girl mentioned in the song is named Noel, and the protagonist is identified as the "loser" in the song. He imagines what it would have been like to go to an Iron Maiden concert with her. However, there are problems to face, like the football player boyfriend and the teasing from older kids. Yet, in the end, everything resolves at the year-end dance, where Noel asks him if he'd like to come to the concert with her. There he is, with his big nerdy head, rubbing his eyes, tousling his hair, originally slicked to one side with Panucci gel, and he goes with her.
Certainly, the content may not be the deepest, it's neither philosophical nor artistic, and it's hardly poetry, but who listens to songs based on the level of culture they express is seen only here on Debaser.
With their alternative, pop, emo-punk style, Wheatus hit big in America with this single, and even here in Italy, they had their fair (small) share of copies sold.
"Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Listen to Iron Maiden baby with me"
THIS TEEN STUFF I DON'T EXPECT YOU TO APPRECIATE, BUT I ASK FOR RESPECT, BECAUSE THIS IS MUSIC, BETTER OR WORSE THAN WHAT YOU LIKE, IT'S STILL MUSIC.....ded to: bryant and those who prefer the dedications of the punisher to mine........
