Townes Van Zandt Our Mother The Mountain
Voto:
Indeed, this one is great; I discovered him with his version of "Dead Flowers" in the soundtrack of Big Lebowski. This statement seems a bit heavy to me: "it has the same weight and importance as Dylan's Visions of Johanna, Cohen's Suzanne." Van Zandt is an excellent interpreter and arranger, but I don't think his songs have that kind of depth. Not to mention that Dylan and Cohen are only influenced by country; they are not true country singers, at most folk.

The Bible, indeed. It's a bit tedious to listen to because it's full of crackles, but there's nothing you can do about it.

I don't like seeing one of the most beautiful records ever made compared to a film with such cloying tackiness as American Beauty. It's just not right; the translations into Italian that you've provided are also quite approximate. Something is happening and you don't know what it is, do you Mr. Jones??

I didn't know this box set was coming out; I'll definitely grab it as soon as it's released.

What can I say, Tom is a real genius, not one of those so-called ones.

Thank you all for the comments, really too kind, I'm glad I'm not the only Italian who listens to this music. "Monsieur Gainsbourg revisited" I haven't listened to much, but it doesn't seem bad at all. First of all, translating Gainsbourg into English is no easy task. In particular, I find Michael Stipe's version of "Hotel Particulier," Jarvis Cocker's "I just came to tell you that I'm going" from Pulp, and "Those little things" by Carla Bruni—it's exactly the "Ces petits riens" I mentioned in the review—quite interesting. Of course, the originals are something entirely different. Anyway, translating songs is a pretty challenging operation, far from literal translation.
