If the film uses irony, it's only to tone down otherwise exaggerated scenes.. even Kubrick juxtaposes irony in the most violent scenes of A Clockwork Orange, but that doesn’t detract from its meaning.. it seems to me that you are trying to resolve a film into issues of petty morality.. quite debatable..

Here I must intervene, I feel it's my duty, it's really a matter of morality: whether one is objective or not, REM were one of the most creative bands, and mind you, I used the term CREATIVE, so I also set aside contextual reasons, of the '80s, Bon Jovi were among the most neglected charlatans that hard rock and rock in general have ever had the misfortune of counting among their most illustrious sellers. Total crap, there’s no less vulgar term to describe them.
