I fully agree on the technique of azzo discourse. For example, two great guitarists like Vai and Clapton have never particularly shone in the compositional phase. They are great guitarists halfway, excellent when they have to play pieces written by others for them (Zappa-Vai), inconclusive when they need to leverage their creativity.
