I think so, Pretazzo. In any case, the main inspirations for Reznor, as he himself says, are Prince, Public Enemy, and the project "This Mortal Coil," in addition to those already mentioned from the industrial scene and certain concept albums of the '70s (see his friendship with Adrian Belew). As for Fidia: damn, get something from the good old David as soon as possible — it may or may not be to your liking, but if it is, you’ll have found something unique. It changed my life. Regarding the NIN, if it's a matter of taste, as I believe, don’t close yourself off too much on the "he's not an artist" thing, because that would be a bit unfair, don’t you think? I also have my bands that I really don’t like, like Genesis for example, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say they aren’t artists... in art, I feel that way about Michelangelo the painter or Bernini... but they are definitely artists.

I would say that the great Coleman is more akin to someone who became great due to insights – grand insights, brilliant insights, of course – but who did not possess the actual talent to consolidate them over time at stable qualitative levels. As for Reznor, well, I haven't seen any flops yet. There are very few artists who have managed to maintain such high levels of quality for almost two decades, aiming for continuous evolution.

The conversation is at a very high level, there's no denying it. Regarding Fidia: I agree with you on the last post you directed at me...I asked you that question when I heard some rather shocking artistic statements. Anyway, out of curiosity: what do you think of David Lynch?

I agree with you brizz, I was simply responding to a post that said "he didn't invent industrial, rather he's the one who gained the most from it."

A very intense and heartfelt review. If I can find the necessary euros, I'll get this gem immediately.

Modern art? An intriguing conversation, not to be missed. I continuously thank the advent of photography that has finally freed art from mimesis and naturalism. So, Phidias, is the eternal artistic instinct of man the reproduction of nature, in your opinion?

Holy words, calus. Not so much in defense of this album, but because they touch on a serious issue of modern society - intellectualization? cultured philistinism? You decide. People sometimes forget how to truly live something. And it's not with the brain.

And for those who still don't know, Reznor doesn't make industrial. Have you ever heard hardcore industrial bands using melodies in a pop sense? Are there melodies in Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Einstürzende or whatever? If anything, Reznor has perfected and evolved that type of music by introducing the melodic component, reaping the right rewards for what he has been able to sow. His melodic talent is unique; no one in the genre has been able to rise to such heights.

Oh my God, Tabba, your entry in De shirt is of an unspeakable sadness. Reznor has detoxed and is taking care of himself for the first time...so what? He’s a man, not a myth that has to self-destruct to satisfy us, as many cowardly wish. If his life hadn't taken this turn, he would have already passed into the realm of the forgotten. Maybe some prefer him to have his teenage mythology, but I prefer him alive and active, and for those who see him as serene, they should read the lyrics of With Teeth, since they probably haven't. Did you want another 30 Downward Spiral? But have you ever tried making music? The formula of a serious artist is "change with every success," so that the search and inspiration are always alive. With Teeth is neither Downward Spiral, nor The Fragile, nor an old-school angry record; it is With Teeth, a record full of disillusionment and melancholy, and it coherently continues the path taken with The Fragile. If you’ve listened to this album carefully, the two weakest tracks are You Know What You Are and The Collector, strangely the only two stylistically derivative songs that mimic the early Reznor. You must ALWAYS CHANGE in music, never bask in what you do best and hope that fans follow you like sheep until the end. This album is a challenge against himself, where he has shown he can make a record of "songs," something he has aspired to for a long time. And it has a monstrous production, worthy of his previous works.

I recommend, if you get the chance, to catch a few shows of the Italian tribute band to Nine Inch Nails, "The Spiral" (www.thespiral.it). I saw them last night in Florence and they are really impressive.
I hadn't commented on the review: I didn't like it much, it has a somewhat childish tone and includes expressions taken from my previous review, so a 2 and a half, rounding up to 3 for excess.
