THE REVIEW

10,000 Days measures up to two of the three previous Tool albums: the masterpieces 'Ænima' and 'Lateralus', dating back to 1996 and 2001, respectively.

The premise aims to reassure the numerous and devoted fans of the American quartet led by the charismatic singer Maynard James Keenan. The Tool's dreamlike metal chants have indeed spawned an underground cult that, in purely commercial terms, almost clashes with the over ten million copies sold by Keenan & Co. over the years. The eleven tracks of 10,000 Days, while approaching eighty minutes overall, represent the most vital and dynamic rock music one can find today.

The opening "Vicarious", chosen by Tool as the first single, thanks to Adam Jones's unmistakable guitar and the impeccable rhythm section played by Justin Chancellor's bass and Danny Carey's drums, immediately showcases the best elements of their repertoire. The following "Jambi" keeps the sonic and emotional wall erected just before exceptionally high for another seven minutes, despite a less brilliant guitar riff than usual. "Wings For Marie (Part 1)", along with the other piece "Intension", is one of the rare moments of unreal tranquility that Maynard's hypnotic voice grants us. "Lost Keys" serves as a suggestive overture to the subsequent devastation offered by "Rosetta Stoned", thus revisiting the "Parabol/Parabola" pair already seen in the previous 'Lateralus'.
The fifth track "The Pot" and the penultimate "Right In Two" are the last two episodes worthy of mention. Missing to complete the album are the Indian chants (?) of "Lipan Conjuring", the predictable suite of "10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)", and the five minutes of incomprehensible noises of the concluding "Viginti Tres".

The only criticism one might level at Tool is perhaps an excessive awareness of their own abilities. In other words: craft. However, as one of the best bands currently in circulation, a certain underlying presumption is welcome, since the results achieved suggest more than once a shift to another word: masterpiece.

The artwork is something amazing, meticulously crafted with holographic 3D images... AMAZING!

This will be an album that will certainly provoke extensive discussion but we need bands like them!

The rhythm proceeds regular and aseptic, regular even in irregularity. An artificial heart, not a spasm, not a jolt, not a leap into the void.

The album flows without any meaning, leaving only the froth at the mouth of those who were waiting for something juicy.

If it had been the same as the previous albums, I would have given a bad review.

An album to savor and listen to billions and billions of times from start to finish.

It is certainly one of the best albums of the last 5 years.

Pink Floyd are one thing, Tool are another.
