I agree with what was said in the first comment by michi, rounding down the review and the album. However, this is not the only time Scaruffi appears out of touch (I remember the eight for Guns'n'Roses and the seven for Chumbawamba and Acqua). Anyway, I give Gemma a 5/5 for her comment, truly disarmingly sincere, from a girl who listened to trash until yesterday and now wants to challenge herself with more ambitious music. Good luck.

Can we say it’s one of the most overrated albums of all time?

Enigmatic this Merzbow, I still have to figure out if he’s for real or just messing with us, whether he’s serious or just pulling everyone’s leg.... anyway, I’ve never listened to the album in question.

Great album, enjoyable even today.

I only have "They Were Wrong.." from them, and while I consider it a great album, I find that it also has that slightly "experimental but a bit unnecessary" quality that you imply. I haven't listened to this one yet, but thanks for the information, good review.

Great Mr. Wolf! Perfect review, for me this is THE masterpiece of P.i.l. and one of the best albums of the 80s. Experimental, claustrophobic, surprising. The rhythm of "Four Enclosed Walls" feels like a slowed-down Jungle track!!!!!! And we were in '81!!

Now it no longer belongs to the Crickets, Adam & The Ants, or the Larsen Lombriki....

Well, I didn't dislike Vannini as a singer... I've never listened to the album in question and the track list is missing, but if you tell me it’s very similar to "Albori 79-83," then it deserved an extra star. Of course, the sound owed a debt to Joy Division (and I've heard some solutions borrowed from Psychedelic Furs and Clock Dva) but the single "Pioggia" and the mini LP "Altrove" are truly gems of an expressiveness rarely achieved here in Italy.
